J OHOR DARUL TA’ZIM (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz has downplayed his teams new Super League record of 103 goals this season, describing it as “just a number” while emphasising the collective effort behind the achievement. Munoz said the milestone reflects the players strong mentality and commitment to consistently give their best in every match, regardless of the scoreline or tight schedule. “Its only a number. But behind these numbers… everyone tries to push himself,” he said after the match against Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday night. JDT have set a new season goalscoring record of 103 goals after a 7-0 win over KL City FC. The record was achieved in 23 matches, surpassing the previous record of 100 goals set by the Southern Tigers in 26 matches dur ing the 2023 season. Munoz noted that despite a tight schedule,

pete with dignity until the end. I think they have to be a little bit proud. They are not playing for me or anybody else, they are play ing for themselves and for the name of the club,” he said. Vidakovic acknowledged that incidents such as the red card affected the match, con tributing to the 7-0 defeat, but described it as an “accident” that can happen in football. Ager Aketxe (18th) and Oscar Arribas (34th) set the tone during Saturday’s match before KL City’s Dmytro Lytvyn was sent off in the 51st minute, leaving the visitors exposed. Stuart Wilkin hit a quickfire double in the 73rd and 77th minutes to make it 4-0 after the break before Adjin Mugajic (82nd), Eddy Israfilov (84th) and Manuel Hidalgo (90+2) completed the rout. JDT continue to lead the Super League standings with 67 points from 23 matches, remaining unbeaten and having secured a 12th consecutive title, while KL City FC are in fourth place with 42 points from 22 matches. – Bernama

the team have remained focused on con tinuous improvement, with every player con tributing fully. “It doesn’t matter if you are winning 1-0 or 2-0 and you play in two days, everybody tries to give the best for our logo,” he added. Looking ahead, he stressed that the team cannot afford to be complacent, with two Super League matches remaining as well as an Asean Club Championship clash against Thailand’s Buriram United. He said several key players, including striker Bergson Da Silva, were rested as part of squad rotation to ensure optimal fitness ahead of the upcoming match. Meanwhile, KL City FC head coach Risto Vidakovic urged his players to remain profes sional and finish the season with dignity despite the heavy defeat. He said the team must stay proud and motivated, stressing that the players are ulti mately playing for themselves and the clubs reputation. “I hope that we are going to at least com

FORMER Cycling Federation of Malaysia (MNCF) vice president, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, believes that the country’s track cycling champion should not be pressured to continue racing until the 2028 Los Angeles (LA) Olympic Games. Khairy who is also the former Minister of Youth and Sports, said the matter should be left entirely to Azizulhasni to discuss with his family. “I think if we put pressure on him to reach the LA 2028 Olympics, to me it would be unfair. Because he is almost 40 years old and he has sacrificed a lot of time. “For me, he will go to the Asian Games and after that he will have to discuss his future with his family,” he said when met yesterday. Meanwhile, Khairy said that if Azizulhasni decides to continue his career until the LA Malaysian National

2028 Olympics, he suggested that he receive the support he needs as an elite athlete. “Taking care of an athlete of this age is not easy. They are vulnerable to injuries and their recovery takes a long time. “So if Azizulhasni wants to compete until the LA 2028 Olympics, we have to help him, including providing support from sports sci ence and treatment if he is injured,” he said. Earlier, the media reported that Azizulhasni was not yet ready to make a decision on whether to continue his career until LA 2028, while stressing that many factors need to be considered. According to the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, although many parties including MNCF and local sports agencies want to see him compete in his sixth Olympics, personal sacrifice is the priority. – Bernama
