Victoria Beckham breaks silence on family drama V ICTORIA Beckham said last Thursday she and her husband David Beckham have always sought to o Earlier this year, Brooklyn accused parents of ‘controlling behaviour’
“protect” their children, months after eldest son Brooklyn Beckham attacked his famous parents in an explosive rant posted on social media. In the January post, 27-year-old Brooklyn alleged his parents tried to “ruin” his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham and said he had no wish to reconcile with his family, reported AFP. He said his parents, seeking to protect the “Brand Beckham”, tried to “bribe me into signing away the rights to my name” before he married the American actress in 2022. Victoria, a former Spice Girls pop star turned fashion designer, told the Wall Street Journal that she and ex-England footballer David have “always tried to be the best parents that we can be.” “We’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. Being a parent of young adult children and adult children – gosh, I mean, it’s very different from having little children. I think we’re trying to do the best we can,” she said. Brooklyn’s surprise criticism of his parents made front-page news in the UK tabloids. “Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders,” he said. David has not directly answered questions about the tensions, but when asked by US broadcaster CNBC about children using social media, he said parents should let children “make mistakes”.
Prince Harry shares challenges of fatherhood Harry and Meghan have two children, Archie and Lilibet, whom Harry says he has felt disconnected from.
BRITAIN’S Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, spoke last Wednesday of the struggles of early fatherhood, as he visited a Melbourne football club on the second day of his tour of Australia with wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. The couple is on a four-day trip to the country, with engagements covering sport, mental health and veterans’ affairs. At the training ground of the Western Bulldogs Australian rules football club, Harry gave a speech in which he spoke about feeling disconnected from his children and using therapy to overcome past issues. “Certainly, I felt a disconnection because my wife was the one creating life and I was there to witness it,” he said at the event, co-hosted by the Movember mental health charity. “From a therapy standpoint, you want to be the best version of yourself for your kids. And I knew that I had stuff from the past that I needed to deal with and therefore, prepare myself to basically cleanse myself of the past.” The couple has two children, Archie and Lilibet, who are not
accompanying them on the trip. They stepped down as working members of the British royal family and moved to the US in 2020, citing a desire to be financially independent and to escape what they characterised as media intrusion into their private lives. They last visited Australia in 2018 while still working royals, announcing Meghan’s first pregnancy hours after arriving in Sydney. Harry and Meghan have received a mixed reception in Australia, where Britain’s King Charles is the head of state, though a sizeable minority supports becoming a republic. The couple were greeted by hundreds of children and parents at a children’s hospital in Melbourne last Tuesday, who said their presence had brought hope to young patients there. But many other Australians have questioned their reasons for visiting the country. “This is no royal visit but a continuation of tone-deaf hawking by a couple estranged from reality,” an opinion piece in the Sydney Morning Herald said ahead of the visit. – Reuters

Sibling rivalry takes centre court in Running Point season two SIBLING rivalry reaches new levels in season two of Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point , as Kate Hudson’s character, Isla Gordon, faces a renewed power struggle within her family’s pro basketball team. Mindy drew from Buss’s memoir to make Isla’s story feel as authentic as possible. The show captures a universal truth about family businesses, said Mindy.
“The stakes just become higher and higher for her, because her brother comes back into the picture,” Hudson told Reuters. In the first season, Isla was appointed team president of the fictional Los Angeles Waves, after her older brother Cam (Justin Theroux) stepped aside. He has since returned in season two. Co-creator Mindy Kaling said the sibling tension was inspired by real-life NBA executive Jeanie Buss, who in 2020 became the first female controlling owner to guide her team to an NBA championship.
It’s a “constant competition” of siblings seeking approval, she added. Although Cam’s return drives much of the drama in the new season, Isla has other struggles, too, that will be familiar to many female viewers. “She has to worry about not only being excellent at her job, but also how she talks, how she’s perceived and how she looks,” Mindy said. “There’s so much more that she has to think about, and I think that’s what makes it so juicy, and what makes it so fun.” Season two of Running Point premieres on Netflix this Thursday.
