Ű BY ASHIQIN AHMAD

I RRESISTIBLY layered with cream, coffee and cocoa, tiramisu has long been the kind of dessert that stops conversations and sparks cravings. With tiramisu’s recent rise in popularity, many food joints want a slice of its virality. Tiramisu is no longer reserved for established sit-down restaurants – now many small businesses are jumping on the trend. But which one truly stands out? In this ultimate food showdown, we are putting five different tiramisu spots to the test.

Gula Cakery tiramisu. – PIC FROM FACEBOOK @GULA CAKERY Gula Cakery The Chef’s Signature Tiramisu at Gula Cakery has built quite a following for its generous layers of mascarpone and sponge. The texture strikes a balance between soft and creamy, with that chilled richness that makes each bite satisfying. Diners can choose between two versions. The normal version is lighter and less sweet, making it ideal for those who prefer a more balanced profile. The Chef’s version, on the other hand, is scooped directly from a tray and comes with extra richness, complete with additional drizzle or garnish for a touch of indulgence. Whichever you pick, both options highlight the cafe’s knack for homely desserts done well. Verdict: 7/10 Strong choice if you want quality tiramisu in a cozy environment and the option to pick the version that matches how sweet you want it. Alexis Bistro This tiramisu leans classic with a boozy twist. The mascarpone layer is infused with cognac and dotted with dark chocolate chunks. It is topped with caramelised nuts and served with tart strawberry sauce on the side. It is moist and rich without being overly sweet. Reviewers say it pairs well with coffee and that the slice is worthy for dessert lovers. Some say the sauce can overpower slightly – so if you like subtler flavour, you might want to request less sauce. Verdict: 8/10 Great pick if you enjoy a luxurious twist and do not mind alcohol in your dessert.

Yellow Brick Road What you will get is a tiramisu that is irresistibly fluffy with airy layers of mascarpone cream in between perfectly soaked ladyfingers. It also comes with a rich sauce you can pour on top which cascades over the dessert. The coffee flavour is stronger, making this version less sweet compared to the other options. For those

who prefer desserts that is more indulgent, this might not be for you. Nevertheless, this tiramisu is highly rated by its lovers who say that it is the perfect balance of roasted sweetness. Verdict: 7/10 A solid choice for those who crave an aftermeal dessert that is neither too heavy nor too sweet.

Bienz tiramisu. – PIC FROM INSTAGRAM @BIENZ.KL Bienz Located in Wangsa Maju, this cafe’s Ter-Miss-You is frequently praised in viral posts and customer reviews. So much so that it is now available everyday instead of limited stocks only sold on Friday through Sunday. They make theirs without egg and reduce the coffee intensity. Cocoa powder is also used generously. The texture is creamy and a first option for those who prefer a less bitter, more dessert-style tiramisu. Many repeat customers say it is one of the most delicious they have tasted. The large portion also makes it good value. Verdict: 8.5/10 Ideal if you want something satisfying, family-friendly and not too coffee-forward.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf The Tiramisu for Two of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has gone viral recently. It is soft, creamy and lightly sweet. The sponge is not drenched – so it holds its texture while still soaking up the coffee flavour nicely. Customers love it for sharing because the size is just right for two. The flavour is gentle on coffee bitterness, making it good for those who dislike strong espresso tastes. However, some say it is pricey especially when add-ons are included.
