Perlis Raja Muda promotes kurma daging in Indonesia
THE Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, promoted local cuisine, especially Perlis favourites, in Indonesia during the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) International Leadership Mobility (ILM) 2025 programme, held in Jakarta and Bandung recently. His Royal Highness chose kurma daging (beef in spiced gravy) as the signature dish at the Perlis Food Promotion sessions, introducing it to restaurant operators and chefs at several top hotels in both cities. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin was accompanied by the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin and Indonesia’s Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto.
Holiday Inn Express Jakarta Matraman general manager Alldilah Arief Permadi said the hotel was honoured to be chosen to promote the dish and hoped to introduce it as a new addition to its menu. “The preparation of kurma daging is fairly simple since the ingredients are quite similar to those we use in Indonesia. It tastes really delicious,” he said. Pullman Jakarta’s executive chef Koay Chee Ming said he was proud and honoured to prepare a dish so close to his heart, as he too hails from Malaysia. “We truly appreciate the Raja Muda’s effort to promote Perlis cuisine in Indonesia. With Jakarta’s rapidly growing culinary scene, it gives us the chance to explore a wider variety of dishes,” he said. Meanwhile, during the UniMAP ILM 2025
