LYFE TUESDAY | SEPT 23, 2025 25 4U2C holds comeback concert
T HREE months ago, many questioned whether the 1990s rap group 4U2C still had the energy to deliver a powerful concert. But it proved them wrong. The group made a strong comeback at We 4U2C Live In Concert with a high-energy performance, reviving the nostalgic “flava” of 90s rap. With nearly 4,000 fans packing the Idea Live Arena recently, 4U2C – whose members are famed for the trademark compact discs that dangled from their necks – went all out to “bring back da 90s flava”. In their first show after nearly three decades out of the spotlight, group members Datuk AC Mizal, Aren, Yanz, Rinz, Lanz and Charlie proved that their vocals remain as powerful as ever. Opening the show with the songs Sini Go Sana No , Dynamite and Hip Hop Tip Top , 4U2C drew cheers from their fans who had long awaited their return to the stage. Pleasantly surprised at the audience’s overwhelming response, AC, whose real name is Mizal Zaini, expressed his gratitude to them. He also joked that their fans did not “back them up” when 4U2C was “attacked” by netizens on social media.
“For all 4U2C fans, thank you for coming even though you didn’t ‘back us up’ when our haters criticised us,” he said. 4U2C performed 18 songs, including its hits Fiona , Suara Asia , 2BD#1 , Video Game and I Miss You , during their two-hour performance, amplified by mega-scale audio and lighting systems, and LED screen displays. There were also performances by other popular groups from the 90s era, namely Ms Teen, A To Z and Res2, belting out their evergreen hits such as Kembalilah Kasih , Itik Gembo Gembo , Darjat and Kepastian . The concert drew to a close with 4U2C’s iconic number Kami Rappers . AC, meanwhile, announced 4U2C had received an invitation to perform in Singapore which, he said, was a surprise even for the group members themselves. He, however, added no decision has been made as each member has individual commitments, and that the group would need to discuss the matter first. – Bernama

Tai Chi Band set to rock Genting stage on Nov 22 HONG KONG rock pioneers Tai Chi Band has announced its 2025 Tai Chi Band 40th Anniversary Tour Concert at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on Nov 22. This show marks a milestone, celebrating four decades of music, passion and memories shared with Malaysian fans. Formed in 1985, Tai Chi took the Hong Kong music scene by storm with its breakthrough debut Red Lips in the Storm at the Carlsberg Pop Music Festival, clinching the championship title and officially stepping into the limelight. The group’s first EP Red Sports Car quickly won the members a devoted following and in the years that followed, albums such as Lost , Thoughts and Silent Storm cemented the band’s reputation as pioneers of Cantonese rock. Over the years, Tai Chi’s music has captured the spirit of an era, from the youthful rebellion of Red Sports Car to the timeless anthem Every Single Word , from the raw power of Stay With Me to the explosive energy of All Mankind Sing Along , which stormed the charts in 1988 and set new benchmarks for Hong Kong rock. Although the band once
INDONESIAN-CANADIAN artiste and producer Jordan Astra has dropped the third instalment of his music trilogy since 2023 – Time Will Tell , in which the album’s focus track Safest Place features Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna. Safest Place is a stunning, soul-soothing duet that radiates warmth and emotional depth. Set against a backdrop of lush orchestral instrumentation, Yuna’s signature silky vocals intertwine effortlessly with Astra’s crisp, powerful delivery, capturing the quiet magic of feeling truly safe with someone. Intimate yet cinematic, the track builds to a feel-good crescendo – equal parts grand, tender and unforgettable. With his debut LP Time Will Tell , Astra is swinging for the fences – bringing his signature blend of soul, funk and groove into sharp, undeniable focus. It is a record steeped in vibrant R&B, sunlit funk and pop sparkle – pulling from the effervescence of Pharrell, the swagger of Jamiroquai and the show-stopping energy of Bruno Mars. Time Will Tell also features collaborations with Afro-R&B trailblazer Nonso Amadi and acclaimed singer-songwriter Justin Nozuka, bringing depth and diversity to a project rooted in vulnerability, connection and sonic elegance. With earlier singles such as Honey , Famous and Driving Me Wild , Astra continues to carve out a sound that is an
drag of slow-moving collaborations, he has been grinding with purpose – touring, experimenting and refining a sound that is dance floor-ready and lyrically rich. His 2023 EP Man From East was a homecoming diary after eight transformative years abroad, while 2024’s Far Deeper dove into the thrill (and terror) of the unknown. Together, they set the stage for his forthcoming record Time Will Tell – his most ambitious, colourful and groove-drenched project yet. From poolside escapes to candlelit backrooms, Astra’s music drops you into scenes you can almost touch. He is not just making tracks – he is building worlds where rhythm reigns and optimism feels like currency. And with Time Will Tell , Astra is proving that in the right hands, repetition is not just practice – it is power. unapologetic celebration of joy, human connection and the warmth we pass between one another. Astra has carved out his lane with irresistible grooves, a magnetic stage presence and a relentless work ethic – anchored by his personal mantra: “repetition sharpens blades”. It is a philosophy that has taken him from making beats in a university dorm room to headlining stages across continents, winning The Showcase Tour Finale and opening for the likes of Leikeli47. He was named one of NXNE’s Top 40 Artistes to Watch in 2022, and his global momentum shows no signs of slowing – streaming strong in Southeast Asian cities such as Bangkok and Jakarta, where his sound continues to resonate.
