T ERENGGANU FC (TFC) head coach Badrul Afzan Razali has praised his men for their 3-0 win over Immigration FC in the return leg of the FA Cup second round match at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Nerus on Saturday night. The win allowed the Turtles to overturn their first-leg 2-1 loss and advance to the quarterfinals with a 4-2 aggregate. The 49-year-old coach said his men showed a level of discipline and never-say-die attitude right from the first whistle. “I want to congratulate my players for giving it their all for victory. They all played well, right from the first minute until the last. “Although we lost 2-1 in the first leg, I am satisfied because we managed to bounce back tonight (Saturday night) for victory, and advance to the last eight,” he said in the post-match press conference. Muhammad Akhyar Rashid scored a brace while Cameroonian striker Junior Sam Ngong chipped in with the other to steer the Turtles to a comfortable home win. Meanwhile, Yusri Che Lah, coach of

Immigration FC, also known as the Mighty Tigers, admitted that his men’s complacency led to the TFC players having lots of space to hurt them and send them packing from the tournament. He also attributed their defeat to several of his key players being down with injuries, thus affecting his game plan. “Language and compatibility were also an issue as three of our imports are from Brazil and one is from Thailand… they don’t understand English. “This may seem trivial, but it’s a big enough problem for me and our local players because they don’t understand my instructions. But then again, I’m not blaming them,” he said. Elsewhere, Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes netted a hattrick on Saturday night to inspire Selangor FC to a 9-0 thrashing of Malaysian University at Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, Kelana Jaya, thus confirming their quarterfinal berth with a 12-1 aggregate win. Defender Kevin Deeromram also shone with a brace, opening the scoring for the Red Giants in the 12th minute and adding another in the 48th. Four more goals for Kinoshi Katsuhito’s side

came from defender Quentin Cheng in the 21st minute, import player Alvin Fortes in the 55th, and substitutes Zach Clough in the 70th and Ahmad Zikri Mohd Khalili in second half stoppage time. Selangor will meet Negeri Sembilan FC in the quarterfinals after the latter eliminated PDRM FC with a 5-1 aggregate win. Earlier, match commissioner Mohd Azhar Ahmad postponed the tie between Sabah FC and Bunga Raya FC after heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu. Sabah hold a commanding advantage after thrashing Bunga Raya 6-0 in the first leg on Aug 17. – Bernama

NATIONAL top women’s squash player S. Sivasangari is now Malaysia’s sole representative at the Egyptian Open 2025 after advancing to the third round in Giza yesterday. Her progress came after the exits of three other Malaysian players namely Rachel Arnold, Aira Azman, and national men’s No. 1 Ng Eain Yow, who were all eliminated in the second round. Sivasangari, seventh seed, needed just 29 minutes to dispatch Egypt’s Nour Heikal 13-11, 11-9, 11-5. The 26-year-old will next face England’s Jasmine Hutton, who overcame her compatriot Grace Gear 11-3, 11-5, 11-7. Hopes of an all-Malaysian clash between world No. 19 Rachel Arnold and world No. 28 Aira Azman in the third round failed to materialise, as both players fell to their respective opponents. Rachel, once again unable to overcome Egypt’s Salma Hany, suffered her fifth consecutive defeat to the world No. 15, losing 5-11, 11-2, 4-11, 15 17 while Aira went down to world No. 3 Hania El Hammamy, 9-11, 9-11, 5-11. Meanwhile, Eain Yow crashed out after he let slip the first set win, 11-8 before falling to Kareem El Torkey of Egypt, 9-11, 8-11, 5-11. – Bernama
