Breaking barriers with fashion
o Plenty of talent at Esmod KL Graduation Fashion Show T HE Esmod Kuala Lumpur Graduation Fashion Show delivered a runway experience filled with fresh artistry, narratives and boundary-pushing craftsmanship. Held recently at The Grounds KL, the event spotlighted the newest batch of graduating designers as they set the runway ablaze with show-stopping masterpieces. Eighteen fashion designers presented 74 distinctive garments, debuting their unique collections before an audience of fashion enthusiasts, family, friends and guests, marking their grand entrance into the world of fashion. They exhibited incredible designs centred around the theme of “Breaking the 4th Wall” – a reference to the famous practice in film and theatre where a character penetrates the invisible line between the worlds of the performance and the spectator by making direct contact. “The show serves as a vessel for us to break our own fourth walls. The walls between our personal worlds and the worlds of the people around us. “We are inviting everyone to come inside our worlds, to experience first-hand our thoughts and feelings, and to understand the clothes we make,” said the group. The class of FD2209 is a collection of unique personalities and backgrounds, encompassing different nationalities, genders and interests with one-of-a-kind stories to share. The soon-to-graduate students saw three years of their blood, sweat and tears come to a final close as they unveiled their personal collections on a runway show for the first time, showcasing their hard work from all the years that they have spent learning and redefining their skills. The talented line-up were: Chan Shu Wen, Christine Liew Wei Ee, Davemond Ng Jia Le, Erica Too Wheng Szee, Erlin Rusliviani, Goh Anne Jie, Janyavula Thanishka, Kwek Yuqi, Liew Jia Yin, Lim Yu Jie, Lin Weiyu, Marvin Siew Chuen Hong, Pang Yu Lok, Renee Wong Tze Ying, Shey Wan Xuan, To Ai Lin, Kelly Woo Si Hui and Yap Yi Wen. The atmosphere brimmed with pride and joy as the graduates were applauded not only for their creativity and hard work, but also for the journey that had brought them to this milestone moment. During the Jury Week leading up to the fashion show, these aspiring designers prepared their showcase booths to impress the jury panel consisting of renowned names in the fashion design industry – fashion designer Melinda Looi, Grazia Malaysia editor-in-chief Ian Loh, Ms Read CEO Kristy Yong, fashion designer Dickson Lim and Juma Studio creative director Jamil Juma. After three years of dedication and hard work, their final collections were evaluated by these industry professionals and they received constructive criticism and praise based on technique, execution, concept, creativity and quality. Esmod Kuala Lumpur aims to continue providing a platform for its students to exhibit their hard work and knowledge earned over the years through fashion shows. Esmod Kuala Lumpur is under the umbrella of the world’s first and oldest fashion school with over 180 years of history.
