N ATIONAL professional men’s sin gles shuttler, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin is eyeing redemption against Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in the qualifying round of the Malaysia Masters 2025, which gets underway tomorrow at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Competing on home turf, Aidil Sholeh believes the host advantage will give him a much-needed boost to upset the seasoned Taiwanese player and secure a spot in the tournament’s main draw. “Playing in front of the home crowd gives me that extra motivation. I know it won’t be easy, but my goal is to make it into the main draw. If I can get past Tien Chen, it would be a great start,” he said during a training session at Axiata Arena yesterday. The Selangor-born player last faced Tien Chen at the Taiwan Open earlier this month but suffered a straight-sets defeat, 14-21, 16 21, in the second round. Reflecting on that match, the 25-year-old admitted the loss was largely due to his unforced errors, a costly lesson he hopes to turn around at the Malaysia Masters. “I was too impatient in Taiwan and made too many mistakes. If I can cut down on those, I believe I can put up a strong fight,” he said confidently. Meanwhile, Aidil Sholeh expressed ENGLISH FA CUP (FINAL) : Crystal Palace 1 (Eze 16) Manchester City 0. tournament to recover as much as possible. “But since I haven’t competed yet, I can’t really say how much pain I’ll be in during a match. I’m still playing cautiously, and I haven’t returned to full intensity just yet,” he told reporters after a training session yesterday. The Kuala Lumpur-born shuttler first sustained the injury while representing Malaysia at the Sudirman Cup in China last month. As a result of the injury, Jun Hao was forced to withdraw from last week’s Thailand Open. Looking ahead to his opening-round opponent at the Malaysia Masters, Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen, Jun Hao views the encounter as a good opportunity to advance, though he remains cautious. “I won’t underestimate him, but I’ve done my best to prepare for the match,” he said. – Bernama
satisfaction with his performance at the Thailand Open last week, where he upset China’s world No. 32 Wang Zheng Xing 21 12, 19-21, 21-17 in the opening round. However, his campaign ended in the second round after falling to another Chinese contender, Lu Guang Zu, in a tight three-setter: 21-18, 16-21, 14-21. Now riding on that momentum, the world No 48 is fired up to deliver his best performance at home and make an impact in the Super 500 tournament. Meanwhile, national men’s singles shuttler, Leong Jun Hao will not be pulling out of the tournament despite still nursing a right-hand injury that has yet to fully heal. The 25-year-old said that while there has been noticeable improvement in his condition, only actual match play will reveal the true extent of his fitness. “The injury is better than last week. I’m using the remaining time before the

The victory keeps alive Malaysia’s mission to end a 34-year team title winless streak against perennial arch rivals Thailand, who also advanced to the final by beating South Korea 2-0 to set up a highly anticipated showdown this evening. Malaysia last lifted a team event title at the 1991 Manila SEA Games. In the clash against India, national head coach Ahmad Jais Baharun opted to field the trio of Mohamad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Mohamad Azlan Alias and Amirul Zazwan Amir in the opening regu. The move paid off handsomely as they delivered Malaysia’s first point with a commanding 15-8, 15-6 win. Buoyed by the result, the second regu comprising Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam, Muhammad Noraizat Mohd Nordin and Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali sealed the tie with another straight-sets victory, 15 8, 15-5. Malaysia had already clinched gold in both the quadrant and regu events, asserting their dominance in the inaugural edition of the championship. – Bernama
