KRU takes trip back to 90s
three nights at Axiata Arena. Alhamdulillah,” they said. Powerful emotions The next segment showcased a line-up of ballads such as 2, Babe, Untukmu (originally by Feminin), Janji Kita, Di dalam Dilema and Bidadari , further emphasising the sentimental side of KRU through the emotional depth of their performance narrative. One of the most touching moments was when KRU performed Perpisahan Terasing as a virtual duet with the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad, accompanied by visuals on a giant screen – a special tribute to the legendary Malaysian artiste. As they descended from the stage to interact with fans while performing Dekat Padamu , KRU created unforgettable memories for those lucky enough to be up close. This was followed by renditions of Wanita and Apa Saja , paying tribute to the band’s female fans and the couples in attendance. KRU invited longtime loyal fans and early signees under their label – Adam AF2 and girl group Elite – to join them in singing Terhangat di Pasaran and Di Pintu Syurga , respectively. The band also performed a medley of songs they composed but were originally sung by other artistes, such as Sedetik Lebih (Anuar Zain), Separuh Masa (The Lima), Romancinta (Mojo) and Hi Hi Bye Bye (Ezlynn), each given a fresh twist. The colourful night continued with a return to their hip-hop and rap roots through tracks such as Hanya Kau, That’s The Way We Jam and Inikah Ertinya Cinta , reviving KRU’s experimental identity that once pioneered urban and electronic music in Malaysia. New album KRU also premiered two new singles
F ANS of iconic pop group KRU were elated as the trio of brothers reunited on stage for the first GenKRU concert, making a much-awaited comeback after a seven-year hiatus from the entertainment scene. Held over nearly three hours at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil last Saturday, the concert drew more than 10,000 fans across generations who relived the golden era of KRU’s music from the 1990s through over 30 hit songs performed by Datuk Norman Abdul Halim, Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim and Edry Abdul Halim. Organised by Icon Entertainment, the event was also attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and his wife, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli, and local celebrities including Sherry Al Hadad and Aedy Ashraf. At exactly 9pm, the stage came alive with a medley of high-energy hits such as Fanatik, Malam Kita and Ooh La La firing up a crowd that had packed the arena since the afternoon and who responded with cheers and nostalgic sing-alongs. “Who among the audience is cheering for Team Norman, Yusry and Edry? But most special of all, who’s Team GenKRU tonight?” the band asked. They were greeted with thunderous applause that echoed throughout the hall. “We never imagined after 33 years in the industry, KRU could still pull off a concert of this scale. Thank you so much for your unwavering support. The number 33 is quite significant for us – 33 years of KRU, three members and we are holding this concert for o Brothers reunite on stage after hiatus

Coincidentally, all three of us were available and that is when the idea of a reunion took shape. After seven years, we missed the playful banter – but we could not just hold a concert without leaving behind a legacy. That is how this album came to life,” said Edry, drawing laughter from the other band members. The concert closed with three of their most iconic and anticipated hits Mengerti, Jangan Lafazkan, and Awas firing up the crowd who stood up, danced and sang along in a climactic, high-energy finale. “Thank you all for being here tonight.
