Gentari powers KLIA2 lifestyle hub
to decarbonising transport infrastructure. “The deployment of this solar PV system at gateway@klia2 strengthens our commitment to environmental sustainability across mall operations. Partnering with Gentari enables us to implement practical solutions that support long term efficiency while advancing our journey towards net zero emissions. This project reflects the continuous steps we are taking to integrate renewable energy across our strategic assets,” said WCT Malls Management Sdn Bhd retail director Allan Tay. The collaboration between Gentari and Segi Astana reflects the growing adoption of renewable energy in Malaysia’s transport infrastructure, as more assets integrate on-site solutions to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. Gentari remains focused on delivering practical clean energy solutions that support its customers’ decarbonisation goals.
renewables can be deployed without disrupting critical operations. Delivered in an active airport setting, the project reflects Gentari’s ability to execute across complex, brownfield assets where safety, reliability and business continuity are paramount. “The inclusion of solar car park structures also provides added value, offering shaded parking for passengers and airport staff while supporting sustainability objectives.” The solar project builds on existing green mobility efforts, including the installation of 12 EV charging points at KLIA2, in response to growing EV charging demand at major transport hubs. It is also expected to deliver more stable energy costs and strengthen operational resilience as passenger traffic and vehicle volumes continue to grow, particularly ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Together, these initiatives point to a more integrated approach
lifestyle integrated complex within KLIA2. The complex is operated by Segi Astana Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between WCT Holdings Bhd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), with retail operations managed by WCT Malls Management Sdn Bhd. The project comprises approximately 5,212 solar panels installed across an estimated 10,500 square metres of rooftop and car park space. It is expected to generate around 4,277 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 3,310 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO Œ e) annually. Gentari Group chief operating officer and country head of Malaysia Shah Yang Razalli said: “As one of Malaysia’s key gateways, KLIA2 is a high-traffic, operationally demanding environment. “Integrating solar here shows how
KUALA LUMPUR: Clean energy solutions provider Gentari, through Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, has deployed a 3.1 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2). This marks a step forward in the solarisation of the country’s transport infrastructure, supporting the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and broader decarbonisation goals. Under a Power Purchase Agreement, the renewable electricity generated will support operations at gateway@klia2, the retail and o Rooftop solar deployment supports lower emissions, long-term energy efficiency
