MATCHSCHEDULE & RESULTS

Zii Jia’s quest goes on NATIONAL professional men’s singles ace Lee Zii Jia’s quest for a long-awaited world tour title remains unfulfilled after he was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2026 Canada Open in Markham Ontario, yesterday. In a grueling 70-minute match at Markham Pan Am Centre, Zii Jia struggled to con tain the aggression of Japan’s Riki Takei, dropping the opening set 13-21 and then staged a gritty comeback to snatch the second set 21-18, before succumbing 18-21 in the match decider. This defeat marks Zii Jia’s first-ever loss to the Japanese shuttler. Despite being a bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the independent player’s search for a title continues as his last tournament crown champion was at the 2024 Australian Open. Malaysia end 19-year drought MALAYSIA’S 19-year wait for mixed doubles glory at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships (Individual) finally came to a spectacular end today in the 2026 edition as Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal-Low Zi Yu scripted history in Yatsushiro, Japan. The second-seeded Malaysian duo displayed nerves of steel to overcome China’s unseeded pair, Zheng Wei Gang and Li Meng Han in a thrilling 43-minute straight sets final at Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium. Ahmad Redzuan-Zi Yu dominated the opening set 21-15 before weathering a late surge from their oppo nents to seal the second set 22-20. This victory also marked their first-ever win over the Chinese pair in their first meeting.
