expressed confidence that Cheng Hoe’s experi ence, expertise and knowledge would be vital assets in the efforts to strengthen the performance of the Harimau Malaya squad. “FAM hopes that the appointment of Tan Cheng Hoe as the interim head coach of the national team will breathe new life into Harimau Malaya in our quest to elevate the team’s performance at both the Asian and international levels,” the statement read. Cheng Hoe previously helmed the Harimau Malaya squad from December 2017 to December 2021, after serving as the national assistant coach from 2009 to 2013. Besides making a name for himself with Kedah, Cheng Hoe also managed Selangor from 2022 to 2024 before moving abroad to Thailand to lead Police Tero FC. In April 2025, the 58-year-old Alor Setar-born coach returned to FAM after being appointed as the National Squad Technical Director. The Harimau Malaya squad are scheduled to compete in the Asean Championship starting next month, followed by the Fifa Asean Cup in September. BAM, Tze Yong part ways THE Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and national men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong have mutually agreed to part ways, effective June 30. In a statement yesterday, BAM said the deci sion was reached following discussions between the parties, with BAM and Tze Yong agreeing that the move would be in the player’s best interests as he charts the next phase of his professional badminton career. BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz thanked Tze Yong for his contributions throughout his time with the national body. “Tze Yong has been an important member of the national team and has represented Malaysia with pride on the international stage. “While injuries unfortunately disrupted his progress in recent years, his resilience through out the rehabilitation process has been com mendable. “After in-depth discussions, both parties agreed that this is the best path forward at this stage of his career. “On behalf of BAM, I would like to thank Tze Yong for his contributions to Malaysian badmin ton and wish him good health and continued success in his future endeavours,” he said in a statement today. Tze Yong expressed his appreciation to BAM, the coaches, support staff and teammates who had supported him throughout his journey with the national team. “I would like to thank BAM for the opportuni ties, guidance and support I have received over the years. “Representing Malaysia has always been an honour, and I am grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey. “For now, my priority is to fully recover and regain my fitness. I will take some time away from competition to focus on my rehabilitation before returning to the court, and I look forward to the next chapter of my career,” he said.
