NATIONAL men’s doubles shuttler Man Wei Chong has described the coaching team’s decision to pair him with Soh Wooi Yik as the best opportunity to elevate his performance. Man said Soh, who won the 2022 World Championships title with Aaron Chia, remained one of the world’s top men’s doubles players. “He’s one of the best men’s doubles players in Malaysia and internationally, and his results speak for themselves. “This is a great opportunity for me to learn from him. Wooi Yik also trusts me, so I need to give my best for him as well,” he told reporters after a train ing session yesterday. Despite learning about the move at the last minute, Man said he respected the coaches’ deci sion to pair him with Soh and ready to embrace the new challenge in future competitions. The 26-year-old also revealed that he resumed on-court training yesterday after previously being hampered by three injuries to his right knee. At the same time, Man said he would need to undergo additional training and improve commu nication with Soh ahead of next month’s Japan Open 2026 campaign from July 14 to 19. The 15-year-old is scheduled to compete in the girls’ doubles event with Genevie Lim and the mixed doubles competition alongside Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium. “I definitely want to fight for gold and, if possi ble, win two gold medals,” she told reporters when met at the Badminton Academy of Malaysia at Bukit Kiara yesterday. Low said her confidence has been strengthened by competing in top-level tournaments, including World Tour events and the 2026 Uber Cup, with her regular partner Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan. The programme also forms part of FAM’s efforts to ensure that the development of women’s foot ball in the country is not solely focused on techni cal aspects on the field, but also encompasses the strengthening of support structures off the field. “Throughout the programme, which is con ducted by two Fifa Women’s Football Development Experts, Safia Abdeldayem and Pema Choden Tshering, participants will be exposed to various modules related to women’s football management, including Women’s Leadership, Women’s Competition, Club and Players’Rights, and Strategic Planning. “These modules aim to empower leadership, enhance understanding of competition structures, the management of players’ and clubs’ rights, as well as help participants develop more effective strategic planning for the advancement of their respective teams,” FAM posted on Facebook yester day.
