Initiative for future-ready banking talents in Asean

Education Hub to expand access to technology education, innovation and future-ready digital skills for local communities. The ceremony was officiated by Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Deputy Exco Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem. The establishment represents a strategic initiative to support the nation’s digital transformation agenda and development of highly skilled human capital, particularly among the younger generation. The hub will serve as a platform for learning and talent development in high-growth areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), programming, robotics, animation, digital content development, esports and digital creative technologies. Todak Academy CEO Mohamad Taufik Rizal Aminuddin said the initiative reflects its commitment to ensure more Malaysians have access to quality digital education and future-relevant skills. “We believe that access to quality digital education should be expanded to all segments of society to ensure that no one is left behind in the ongoing technological transformation,” he said. He also expressed appreciation to schools, principals and teachers for their support and collaboration in implementing the academy’s programmes throughout Malacca. KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Banking School (ABS) has launched a major digital transformation initiative aimed at redefining professional learning and workforce development for the banking and financial services industry across Malaysia, Asean and broader Asian region. The initiative was officially unveiled at the launch of the ABS Digitalisation Initiatives & ABSNEXLEARN Digital Learning Portal recently. ABS introduced a fully integrated digital, hybrid and AI-powered learning ecosystem designed to future-proof workforce capabilities and accelerate industry readiness for emerging technologies. Held at the AICB Centre of Excellence here, the ceremony brought together senior banking leaders, regulators, policymakers and human capital leaders to discuss the future of talent development in the age of digital transformation and AI. At the centre of this transformation is ABSNEXLEARN KHX, Asia’s first dedicated digital learning platform for banking and finance. In collaboration with Intuition, a global strategic learning partner, the platform integrates more than 900 tutorials, simulations, case studies, and scenarios, supported by over 64 hours of video learning content, with content continuously updated to ensure relevance in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. ABS CEO Prof Dr Manivanan Saman said the future of banking education must evolve in tandem

hybrid classrooms and a virtual recording studio—with facilitated and face-to-face engagement. ABSNEXLEARN complements existing leadership and executive education programmes while enabling scalable, flexible and measurable learning across financial institutions. The platform also supports Continuing Professional Education (CPE)-aligned learning pathways and offers institutions a cost-effective and accessible solution to accelerate workforce upskilling and reskilling. The initiative is expected to play an important role in strengthening workforce readiness, digital fluency, and skills development in the sector. with the pace of technological transformation. “Through ABSNEXLEARN and our wider digitalisation initiatives, ABS is reimagining how learning is delivered—combining technology, accessibility and human engagement to build a future-ready workforce for Malaysia and the Asean region. “This is not merely a technology initiative, but a strategic investment in talent, capability development and the long-term resilience of the financial services industry.” The event also featured a special address by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) assistant governor Suhaimi Ali and a keynote address by TalentCorp group chief operating officer Siva Kumeren A. Narayanan. The initiative reflects ABS’s broader “hi-touch, hi-tech” learning philosophy, combining advanced technologies—including AI-enabled platforms, immersive digital content,

Electronics engineering student receives IEM Gold Medal Award

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Gui Ye, a Bachelor of Electronics Engineering with Honours student from UTAR’s Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT), was awarded the prestigious IEM Gold Medal Award 2025. He was selected in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, technical competency, leadership qualities and active involvement in engineering-related activities. Organised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), the award ceremony was held on April 1 during the IEM Annual Dinner and Award Presentation Ceremony. The award is presented annually to outstanding engineering students and graduates who have demonstrated excellence not only in academics but also in technical innovation, problem-solving abilities and contributions to the engineering profession and society. Tan’s achievement was further strengthened by his final year project titled FPGA Implementation of RISC-V Processor. The project focused on the design and implementation of a RISC-V processor on FPGA using Verilog/SystemVerilog. It involved the development of a five-stage pipelined processor architecture, incorporating essential modules such as the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), Controller, Program Counter and instruction execution stages. Functional verification of the processor was conducted through

simulation and waveform analysis before being implemented on the FPGA platform. The processor was successfully programmed onto the Cyclone V SoC FPGA on the DE1-SoC board using Quartus Prime software. The outputs were then verified using LEDs and seven-segment displays, demonstrating accurate processor functionality and instruction execution. “I was inspired by the growing importance of semiconductor technology and processor design in modern electronic systems,” Tan said. “RISC-V, being an open-source instruction set architecture, has become increasingly important in academia and industry. This motivated me to explore processor architecture design and FPGA implementation in greater depth.” The project provided valuable exposure to digital IC design, embedded systems and computer architecture, which are relevant to industries involving semiconductor design, FPGA development, embedded systems and processor verification. Processor technologies are vital to power modern devices such as smartphones, computers, automotive systems and AI applications. “This recognition motivates me to continue improving myself and contributing to the engineering field, particularly in semiconductor and IC design technologies,” Tan added.

as artificial intelligence, robotics and programming but also help develop the highly skilled workforce required by Malaysia’s growing digital economy,” he said. “I believe this hub will serve as a catalyst for local talent development, create greater learning and career opportunities for Malacca’s youth, and strengthen the state’s position as one of Malaysia’s leading digital economy destinations.” He stressed that strong collaboration between the government, educational institutions and industry players is essential to ensure more youngsters can benefit from technological advancement and digital economic growth.

Banking & Finance “The Melaka Digital Education Hub is a significant platform that expands access to technology and digital skills education for the people of Melaka. “Initiatives like this not only expose students to future technologies such “The success of digital talent development depends greatly on the commitment of educators,” he said. “Teachers play a crucial role in unlocking students’ potential and encouraging them to explore technology, innovation and digital creativity.” Meanwhile, Noor Helmy described the hub as a strategic initiative that will bring long-term benefits to both talent development and the state economy.
