A new exhibition celebrating the evolution of Malaysia’s traditional tekat embroidery is now showing at Temu House, bringing together contemporary artists, design students and master artisans in a collaborative exploration of heritage and modern expression. Titled Inspired by Tekat , the visual arts showcase reinterprets the centuries-old Malay craft through contemporary materials, techniques and artistic perspectives. The exhibition is the inaugural project under 3R Media’s Arts Heritage Artists programme, which aims to preserve and sustain Malaysia’s artistic traditions through new forms of engagement. The showcase features works by nine contemporary Malaysian artists alongside seven fashion and design students from the Malaysian Institute of Art, spanning textile and non-textile mediums. Traditional tekat pieces by experienced artisans are also displayed alongside the contemporary interpretations, creating a dialogue between heritage craftsmanship and modern artistic practice.
