Veteran actor Jalil Hamid passes away VETERAN actor and singer Jalil Hamid died at 12.30pm on Tuesday at his residence in Shah Alam. He was 69. His daughter Afiqah Jalil said her father died in his sleep. “After Subuh prayers, he went back to sleep… and then he was gone. He had a heart condition,” she said when contacted. He was laid to rest after Asar prayers at the Section 21 Muslim Cemetery in Shah Alam. Jalil had been active in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years. He was known as a versatile artiste, including as a comedian, as well as for his roles in films and dramas that resonated with local audiences. Among his notable works were the songs Ayam and Raya , the films Baginda and Zombi Kampung Pisang ... and several local dramas. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences on the passing of Jalil. He described the thespian as a figure who made significant contributions to the local arts scene, adding that his passing is a great loss to the nation’s creative industry. “His services and legacy will always be remembered. My condolences to the entire family of the late Jalil. May they be granted strength and fortitude in facing this difficult time,” he said in a Facebook post. Meanwhile, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the passing of veteran actor Jalil as the loss of yet another gem of the local entertainment industry. He said all the late actor’s contributions, service and sacrifices will always be remembered.
