W ORLD CHAMPION Lando Norris expects Max Verstappen to stay in Formula One and fight for a fifth title despite the Dutch driver suggest ing he might leave because of his unhappi ness over the sport’s new rules. Red Bull’s Verstappen has been one of the loudest critics of the new engine era and what he calls “anti-racing”. “I also saw that he said he wants to win a fifth world championship so you know, I’m sure he’ll stay longer than people say,” Norris told reporters at a McLaren event at their Woking headquarters yesterday. Norris beat Verstappen by two points last season, ending his friend and rival’s run of four titles in a row. Verstappen, 28, won more races than anyone last year but Red Bull, with their own engine replacing the previous Honda power unit, have been far less competitive under the new rules.

But I think it’s a step in the right direction for sure.” Piastri said he had tried to explain the rules to friends during the off-season “and it was a pretty long conversation with a lot of follow-up questions. “But yeah, with the power units there’s not really an easy way to simplify them or the rules around them … it’s always going to be a compromise, and that’s what we have.” – Reuters

Piastri admitted the tweaks were so technical, involving megajoules and kilo

PACE BOWLERS Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger shared five wickets between them as Rajasthan Royals defended a modest total of 159 to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs in the IPL on Wednesday. Burger, a left-handed quick from South Africa, struck two key blows including Mitchell Marsh for 55, and Archer took 3-20 to bundle out hosts Lucknow for 119 at the Ekana Stadium. Rajasthan bounced back from successive defeats to jump to sec ond in the table led by Punjab Kings. Lucknow faltered in the chase after losing three early wickets, with skipper Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram both out for a duck. Burger had Pant caught behind in his first over before Markram miscued from Archer and skied a catch to wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. “I am blessed – for two bowlers to bowl three-three (overs) in the powerplay was commendable,” said Rajasthan skipper Riyan Parag of his pace duo. “The lengths and lines they bowled and the way we fielded, impressive.” Australia’s Marsh attempted to rescue Punjab with Nicholas Pooran (22) and then impact sub stitute Himmat Singh, who scored 15. Marsh reached his fifty with a six off Burger but the bowler got his revenge two balls later when the opener mishit a shot and Parag took a good catch. Medium-pace bowler Brijesh Sharma took two wickets in an over to further corner Lucknow, who survived just 18 overs in their fourth straight defeat. “I think it is difficult to explain, like it’s definitely our batting is let ting us down, but at the same time, we are disappointed as a team,” said Pant. “But at the same time, you’ve got to keep finding ways. You have to look for answers inside, not out side.” Archer, who reached a top speed of 151.6kph, mopped up the final two wickets to seal victory for Rajasthan.
