J OHOR DARUL TA’ZIM FC (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz has described the 1-1 draw against Terengganu FC (TFC) in the 2025/2026 Malaysia Super League as a “wake-up call” for his side after they failed to capitalise on several clear scoring opportuni ties at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on Saturday night. Munoz said JDT created enough chances to put the game beyond doubt but were unable to convert their dominance into a win ning margin, allowing the visitors to remain in contention throughout the match. “When you don’t kill the game, you are playing with opponents. Sometimes you are not mature in important moments,” he said in a post-match press conference, stressing the need for greater composure and better deci sion-making in decisive phases of matches. He said the team must take full lessons from the result and respond with improved focus and intensity in the remaining fixtures of the season. “It’s a wake-up call. Today we need to wake up a little bit, put more focus and improve for the next match,” he added. Munoz said JDT will look to respond strongly, maintaining high performance stan dards and mentality as the season reaches its final stage, while continuing to push for maxi mum results in the remaining matches. Despite dropping points, he emphasised that the team’s approach remains grounded in discipline, mentality and consistency as they look to finish the campaign strongly. JDT, who have already secured the league title, remain unbeaten in the league this sea son and still have three matches remaining in their campaign. The draw ended their run of 20 consecutive league victories. Meanwhile, Terengganu FC assistant head coach Tengku Hazman Raja Hassan was satis fied with the commitment shown by his play ers despite admitting that there were some missed opportunities in the match.

“Overall, I am satisfied with the commit ment shown by my players and I think it was more of a blessing this evening. “We can see many chances that the JDT team got and we also had some chances, and overall with the players we have, I am very sat isfied with what they contributed to the game this evening,” he said. Tengku Hazman also praised the players’ discipline in defending and their team’s ability to absorb JDT’s pressure, besides stressing that each player understood their role when defending and attacking, thus helping the team remain competitive throughout the match. The Southern Tigers controlled the tempo of the game from the start with several danger ous moves, but failed to break the deadlock in the first 20 minutes. Terengganu FC remained disciplined in defence while launching counterattacks that tested the home defence, making the match more balanced after the initial phase of JDT’s dominance. The deadlock was finally broken in the 22nd minute when Bergson da Silva finished off Mohd Afiq Fazail’s pass to put JDT in front. However, the advantage only lasted 13 minutes when Terengganu FC equalised in the 35th minute through Ehson Panjshanbe who met Gervane Kastaneer’s pass before fir ing a powerful shot past the home goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamed. The second half saw JDT continue to increase the intensity of the game with more dominant possession of the ball, while Terengganu FC remained dangerous through quick counterattacks. JDT almost created the winning goal in the 77th minute when substitute Muhammad Syahmi Safari fired a powerful shot in the pen alty box, but the attempt only hit the post before the ball bounced out. The match ended 1-1, with both teams sharing one point. – Bernama
