RM28 million upgrade for Kelantan bazaar KOTA BHARU: The RM28 million upgrade of Bazaar Buluh Kubu here is expected to strengthen the batik industry by enhancing facilities and revitalising the trading area, which will be rebranded as Bazar Siti Aisyah. Bazar Buluh Kubu Batik and Craft Association chairman Datin Nik Rosmawati Nik Yusoff said the bazaar, which has been operating for over 41 years, is among the oldest in the state and requires a comprehensive upgrade. She said the project follows numerous complaints over the deteriorating premises and inadequate basic facilities, including poor lighting, parking issues and the lack of disabled-friendly amenities. “The traders are grateful to the federal government, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as well as the Kelantan State Economic Development Corporation for undertaking this upgrade. “The bazaar houses about 100 traders, with around 90% involved in batik and handicraft businesses. We are thankful it will be upgraded soon.” Nik Rosmawati said traders are expected to vacate the premises by the end of next month to allow upgrading works, which are estimated to take 36 months to complete. During this period, traders will be temporarily relocated to a former supermarket building in Jalan Padang Garong, where rental rates are expected to be higher as the premises are privately owned. “We hope the government will consider providing incentives to ease the burden on traders during the relocation period, as the costs involved are quite high.” She also expressed hope that promotional efforts would be intensified to ensure Bazar Siti Aisyah remains a key visitor destination upon completion. On March 29, it was reported that the federal government had allocated RM28 million for the upgrading project. – Bernama
