SONY, HONDA PULL PLUG ON EV PROJECT Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) has offi cially cancelled the development and launch of its Afeela electric vehicle programme, including the Afeela 1 that was scheduled to enter production. The decision follows discussions between both parent companies after Honda’s recent reassessment of its electrification strategy. According to SHM, the change in direction means certain technologies and assets that were originally planned to be supplied by Honda will no longer be available. As a result, the joint venture said it no longer has a viable path to bring the Afeela models to market as initially planned. The Afeela 1 was previously unveiled as the first production model under the Sony-Honda joint venture, with plans to launch in the United States in 2025 and begin deliveries by mid-2026. Reservations had already been opened, with customers placing deposits for two variants which are the Origin and the higher-spec Signature. A teaser posted on the Seres Malaysia Facebook page hints that the Seres E5 Plus seven-seater Phev SUV is about to be launched in Malaysia. If the brand does not sound familiar, you might be more familiar with its previous moniker, DFSK Motors. Like most other cars from the middle kingdom, the E5 Plus goes by many names. Some may know it as the Landian/DFSK E5 Plus as well as being a sister model for the Aito M7 sans the Huawei tech side. Some of the sister brands under the Seres Group do partner with Huawei. Apart from the teaser of the E5 Plus under covers with its DRLs illuminating through the fabric, details are non-exis tent. However, a quick browse online led us to Car News China and some figures that would be representative of the E5 Plus that reaches our shores. Under the hood sits a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 95PS that functions as a generator, feeding the electric motor that delivers 218PS and 330Nm of torque. All in, it is good for a century sprint time of 7.8 seconds and the top speed is 180kph. In terms of dimen sions, the E5 Plus measures in with a footprint just under that of a Leapmotor C10, making it quite a size able SUV. SERES E5 PLUS 7-SEATER PHEV SUV IN MALAYSIA?
