A FLORIDA judge ruled yester day that Tiger Woods can leave the United States to seek “comprehensive inpatient treatment” after his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. Woods’s attorney, Douglas Duncan, submitted the motion to travel in Martin County Court, citing the 50 year-old golfer’s urgent need for an “intensive, highly individualized and medically integrated program” as well as privacy from media and public scru tiny. Judge Darren Steele granted the motion after a teleconference on the matter. DELHI CAPITALS recovered from a top-order col lapse as Sameer Rizvi hit an unbeaten half-century to help secure a six-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL on Wednesday. South Africa seamer Lungi Ngidi took three wickets as Delhi bowled out hosts Lucknow for 141, a total the Capitals overhauled with 17 balls to spare. Delhi slipped to 26-4 before impact substitute Rizvi, who struck 70 not out, and Tristan Stubbs, who made 39, put on an unbeaten stand of 119 to steer the team home. “I think the way Sameer plays naturally just against the spin, takes it on, so it made my job a bit easier,” Stubbs said. “Just knock it around, get him on strike. And we always knew it was one over, and then it was down to run a ball, and then take the game away, the shots you need, and fortunately we got it there.” Mohammed Shami, in his debut season for Lucknow, dismissed KL Rahul for a duck with the first ball of the chase. Fellow quick Prince Yadav struck twice in one over to send back Pathum Nissanka (1) and Axar Patel (0) to leave Delhi in trouble 4.3 overs into their chase. But Rizvi, who hit five fours and four sixes in his 47-ball knock, and Stubbs steadied the ship before unleashing as the target came into view. The 22-year-old Rizvi, who was named player of the match, raised his fifty with a four off part-time spinner Aiden Markram and later hit the winning six. “You know, one positive (is) that boys fought hard,” said Lucknow skipper Rishabh Pant. “The way we bowled, especially the way we started, definitely some good signs going ahead in the sea son.” Pant opened the Lucknow innings with Mitchell Marsh but was run out for seven after a hit from his fellow batter grazed the bowler’s arm to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Delhi skipper Patel bowled Markram for 11 and wickets fell at regular intervals. Ngidi sent back Nicholas Pooran for eight with a well-disguised slower delivery that rattled the stumps. Marsh attempted to pull things back with his 35 but fell in his attempt to attack left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and the batting then col lapsed. Abdul Samad’s 25-ball 36 boosted the total but the Lucknow innings lasted for just 18.4 overs after Ngidi struck with successful balls. Left-arm quick T Natarajan also took three wickets. – AFP jobs despite a comprehensive defeat. Anderson, who will cap tain Lancashire in this season’s first-class 2026 County Championship, was coy when asked if England had been right to retain the trio, say ing: “They’ve decided that that’s the right way to go. “We’ve seen it in the past where peo ple have lost their jobs after Ashes series and maybe knee-jerk reactions to what that is.” – AFP

DEFENDING CHAMPION and top seed Jessica Pegula labored more than three hours to reach the round of 16 at the WTA Charleston Open yesterday with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Yulia Putintseva. Pegula, the world No. 5 from the United States, had clawed back a set but was broken to trail 0-2 in the third before mounting a final fightback. “All I just kept thinking was, like, welcome to the clay court season,” Pegula said after grinding out the win on Charleston’s green clay. Pegula, who enjoyed a first round bye, said the breezy conditions and challenging shadows made it hard to respond aggressively to the high, looping shots from 72nd-ranked Putintseva of Kazakhstan. “She’s a really tricky opponent in general,” Pegula said. Pegula is chasing her second title of the year, after a victory in Dubai in February. Brook, Bethell warned ENGLAND white-ball captain Harry Brook and teammate Jacob Bethell have been warned about their future con duct after a nightclub incident on the pre-Ashes tour of New Zealand last year. The Cricket Regulator – a body inde pendent of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) responsible for enforcing regulations – yesterday issued cautions to Brook and Bethell for breaching player conduct rules. Brook claimed originally that he was on his own when he got involved in an alterca tion with a bouncer at a Wellington nightclub on the eve of a one-day inter national on November 1, an incident that was only revealed two months later. Brook was fined £30,000 (RM160k) by the ECB and given a final warning. He later admitted that Bethell and fast bowler Josh Tongue had been present, explaining he had lied to try to protect his teammates and publicly apologised. No action was taken against Tongue, who was not in the one-day interna tional squad at the time. FAST-BOWLING great James Anderson believes England can still regain the Ashes on home soil next year despite a dire series loss in Australia. The veteran paceman, effectively forced into England retirement by the current set-up, could only look on as Ben Stokes’ men succumbed to a 4-1 loss in a five-Test contest from November to January. What made the reverse even tougher to take was that England had travelled Down Under with hope of winning the Ashes for the first time since 2015 given they were up against a less than vintage
