Devils can’t wait Manchester United raring to go again after first loss under Carrick
against Villa after the midfielder missed their last six League games due to injury. “He is an important player for us,” he said. “He is not 100% and he has only trained for a small period of ߑ time. But he is back and that’s good for us. “We will see if he is involved on Sunday. That is it in terms of the players coming back.” Meanwhile, Carrick believes that Harry Maguire has put himself back into the picture for an England recall and hopes Thomas Tuchel selects the defender when he names his squad last week. “Whatever’s going to happen with England is going to happen with England, but he’s definitely put himself back in the frame, if he was ever out of it. Hopefully from my point of view he gets picked.” – Reuters/Agencies

MANCHESTER UNITED’S interim manager Michael Carrick yesterday said his players were “itching to get going” again when they host fellow Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa, after suffering their first defeat under his ߑ leadership. Last week, 10-man Newcastle United ended Carrick’s unbeaten run after William Osula came off the bench to score a spectacu lar 90th-minute solo winner. Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim in
United’s defeat by Newcastle prompted a dig from former player Paul Scholes, who wrote on Instagram : “Michael has definitely got something special about him, because United have been crap last four games.” Asked about his former teammate’s comment, Carrick said: “It was nothing really, nothing to say about it really. That is just where we are in terms of social media captions and quotes. “It can be taken in different ways, so just be calm about it. There are differ ent opinions out there and things can be taken from one extreme to another. “It is what it is. I am not worried about it. I don’t make a big deal about it.” Carrick said he would be able to call upon Mason Mount for the match
January, has guided United into the top four after a strong run and the third placed side will look to keep up their push for a Champions League spot when they host fourth-placed Villa today (10pm Malaysian time). “I understand the first defeat feels different but it was going to come ߑ at some point. Most teams have suffered that at some point,” Carrick told report ers. “It has been a really good week in some ways, we have put ourselves in a position where there is a lot to play for. “It was disappointing the way the game ended (against ߑ Newcastle) but we have digested that, looked at it and learned from it. We have trained really well this week and the boys are itching to get going.”

Cullen for an own-goal. Reynolds and McElhenney pro vided commentary on the game for British satellite broadcaster Sky Sports . The pair praised Wrexham man ager Phil Parkinson, with Reynolds saying: “What a leader, what a gem, he is so steady. “He’s character first, always charac ter first. “Phil is now reading my scripts before I decide if I do anything. He is quite something.” The top two in England’s second tier Championship at the end of the regular season are promoted auto matically. The next four sides then battle it out in a series of play-off games to decide which other club grabs the third spot that will see them enjoy the riches of English football’s lucrative top-flight. Wrexham are six points in front of seventh-placed Southampton, although the Saints now have a game in hand. WREXHAM’S celebrity co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were on commentary duty as their team won 2-0 at home to Welsh rivals Swansea yesterday to bolster their bid for promotion to the Premier League. The Hollywood actors are seeking to oversee a fourth consecutive pro motion that would continue Wrexham’s remarkable rise through the English football pyramid. Victory over Swansea, who have a famous American co-owner of their own in rap singer Snoop Dogg, left Wrexham sixth and on 60 points ahead of the bulk of this weekend’s second-tier Championship fixtures, and in a play-off place. Nathan Broadhead opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a low angled shot and it seemed that might be the only goal of the game at the Racecourse Ground. But Wrexham put the result beyond doubt two minutes from time when George Thomason’s cross found Callum Doyle, whose downward header took a big deflection off Swansea and Wales forward Liam
