government has welcomed initiatives by various parties to enhance mosques and surau nationwide, including efforts to upgrade selected surau into Friday prayer venues at strategic locations such as shopping malls and highway rest and recreational (R&R) areas, Bernama reported. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the government is actively expanding Friday surau facilities at such locations PUTRAJAYA: The Digital Ministry has launched the Government Innovation Initiative (GII), a national programme to drive public-sector innovation and accelerate Malaysia’s goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030. GII focuses on turning real government and citizen challenges into deployable solutions, prioritising Made-by Malaysia technologies, strengthening the domestic AI ecosystem as well as helping local digital and AI companies at home and abroad. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), working with the Health Ministry, has rolled out a flagship GII pilot, the RadioConnect initiative, across three public hospitals. “RadioConnect aims to systematically and efficiently provide cloud-based connectivity with secure access across multiple providers nationwide through each hospital’s Picture Archiving and Communication System. “The objective of RadioConnect is to facilitate and streamline the entire process to provide secure, economical and instant electronic storage, retrieval and sharing of diagnostic images like X-rays, MRIs and CT scans by allowing authorised doctors and medical practitioners to access patient images from multiple departments across all hospitals in Malaysia,” he said in a statement yesterday. The next phase of GII involves the establishment of Citizen Labs, a collaborative platform for the public to submit real-world issues and feedback directly to relevant ministries, ensuring targeted and effective solutions for the people. At the core of this effort is the MyInovasi portal (myinovasi.gov.my), Malaysia’s central platform for driving a vibrant national innovation ecosystem. “The GII is not just about adopting new technology but also about building a future-proof public sector that is responsive, efficient and deeply rooted in local ingenuity.” – Bernama

‘I am Muhyiddin’s number one enemy now’

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 17 Bersatu members have had their memberships terminated by the party’s disciplinary board, including four MPs and two state assemblymen. Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who is among those expelled, confirmed the matter. “That is correct,” he replied briefly, referring to the notification dated Feb 13 submitted to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin by Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan. In addition to the Supreme Leadership Council member, others expelled include Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (Larut MP), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik MP) and Capt Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas MP). The two expelled state assemblymen are Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub (Bemban, Malacca), who is also the state’s opposition leader, and Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik, Perak). Nine Bersatu division chiefs expelled were: Mohd Hassuandi Hamzah (Larut), Yunus Nurdin (Libaran), Datuk Abdul Aziz Ismail (Dungun), Ahmad Nasir Mid (Selayang), Ahmad Ishak (Gopeng), Kamaruddin Majid (Teluk Intan), Datuk Zulkifli Bujang (Johor Bahru), Ramlan Meon (Tangga Batu) and Mohd Yunus Mhd Yusop (Tapah). Also expelled were Sabah Bersatu Srikandi Muda chief Nabila Norsahar and Hulu Langat Bersatu Information chief Mohamad Shafiq Abdul Halim. The notice stated that the Disciplinary Board performed its duties under the Bersatu disciplinary case management procedures on Feb 12 and subsequently made the decision in accordance with Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu constitution. The notice added that any Bersatu party member found guilty of violating party discipline and penalised has the right to submit an appeal to the Appeals Board for consideration within 14 days from the date of the letter. Meanwhile, all Bersatu members have been sternly reminded not to be involved in any form of meetings or gatherings organised by individuals who have been expelled by the party’s disciplinary board. Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said it is an offence for any member to collude with individuals or parties who act contrary to the party’s constitution and who utter abusive remarks that tarnish the party’s good name and dignity. “The Disciplinary Board has decided that Hamzah Zainudin and several individuals have been stripped of their membership rights under Clause 22.5 with effect Feb 13 for breaching Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution.” – Bernama Four MPs, two state assemblymen among 17 sacked by Bersatu

PETALING JAYA: The alleged takeover of Bersatu’s Facebook page could be linked to individuals aligned with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, a development that appears to reflect ongoing internal tensions within Bersatu following his removal as deputy president, said political analysts. “The factionalism in Bersatu is really deep. Those aligning with Hamzah may not be so happy right now. It also shows that the unhappiness and anger with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is real and has been worsened by the sackings,” said International Islamic University Malaysia Political Science and Madani Studies head Assoc Prof Dr Syaza Farhana Mohamad Shukri. The former deputy president claimed he was blindsided by his dismissal. “I had no idea this was happening. Today I speak because I simply didn’t know. What kind of ghosts are in this party? Enough is enough.” Muhyiddin defended the move yesterday, saying he had acted “in good faith” to protect Bersatu. On whether he would invite other opposition MPs to join him, he said, “if they are supporting me, do they have to join me? If leadership continues to act one way in front and another behind, this party will collapse.” Looking ahead, Hamzah signalled that he would have a “new house”, with a “new political reset”, hinting at a fresh platform for his supporters. “I’m not the head, but maybe I’m the captain. Hamzah was sacked along with several other top-tier figures, including supreme council member and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, in what insiders described as a dramatic shake up within Bersatu. “I have been expelled, and I will not file any appeal. Struggle requires sacrifice, and I have given a lot. “I have acted in the name of the party and for the people. I am no longer a member of Bersatu but I remain an MP and a leader of the Opposition. They’re not part of the party anymore.” Political analyst Prof Azmi Hassan said the alleged hack of Bersatu’s Facebook page was likely done by one of its administrators. He said it shows that many of Hamzah’s supporters are willing to take the risk to portray him as a victim. “What can be seen from this episode is that there are still many Bersatu members who support Hamzah.” He said the hacking shows that something is not right in Bersatu and something is not right with what Muhyiddin did to Hamzah.” Another political analyst, Prof James Chin, said the so-called hijacking of Bersatu’s Facebook page should not be overblown. “It just so happened that the page had many administrators,

Creating green awareness via ‘seed pen’ initiative

Use electricity wisely during hot weather, public urged KUALA LUMPUR: The public is advised to use electricity prudently during the ongoing hot spell and ahead of the festive season, when energy consumption is expected to increase. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said electricity usage typically rises during hot weather, particularly due to longer operating hours for electrical appliances such as air conditioners and fans. Electricity consumption also tends to rise during festive periods due to the prolonged use of decorative lighting, food preparation and hosting open houses, said TNB. Electrical safety tips 0 Switch off the main power supply when leaving home and unplug unused electrical appliances. 0 Ensure electrical appliances are not exposed to direct sunlight, excessive heat or flammable materials such as curtains and paper. 0 Check sockets, plugs and wiring to ensure none are damaged or loose. 0 Ensure Residual Current Devices (RCD/ELCB/RCCB) are functioning properly and tested regularly. 0 Engage only Energy Commission ST-registered electrical contractors for wiring or repair works. 0 Use electrical appliances and decorative lights certified by ST-Sirim and those with high energy efficiency ratings. 0 Avoid overloading sockets or using extension cords for high-powered appliances. 0 Do not charge mobile phones while using them or leave electrical appliances operating unattended. Keep fireworks and festive materials away from electrical poles and cables. Prudent electricity usage 0 Set air-conditioner temperatures between 24°C and 26°C, clean filters regularly and ensure proper ventilation. 0 Arrange refrigerator contents properly to allow good airflow. 0 Use timers for decorative lights and maximise natural light during daytime. 0 Plan appliance usage to avoid operating high-powered appliances simultaneously. 0 Limit the use of water heaters while bathing. 0 Switch off appliances when not in use. 0 Iron clothes in bulk to reduce electricity consumption. 0 Switch off rice cookers after cooking. Plantable writing instrument allows consumers to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable habits by reusing item to grow vegetables

She said based on research and user feedback, plants usually sprout within two weeks. “Designed with sustainability in mind, these seed pens are made from recycled paper, with almost all parts biodegradable except for the ink tube. Research and development is ongoing to make the tube fully biodegradable as well,” she said. On balancing affordability with sustainability, Shalenee said the key is making the products accessible to more people. “Affordable products attract more customers, as they feel (justified) when spending on reasonably priced items. “Especially when you’re on a mission to revolutionise the world, affordability is crucial to spread the message and reach more customers. Our business will eventually sustain itself.” Shalenee said the seed pen is designed to transform how people view and use everyday plastic items, turning a product that would normally be discarded into something which has a positive environmental impact. She highlighted that Malaysians have responded positively to the concept of a pen that can be planted after use, with most customers drawn to the planting process while others appreciate the quality and enjoy writing with it. “We are committed to a more sustainable world, with our zero waste initiative, including plantable seed pens, school and office talks and biodegradable products repurposed as animal feedstock.” nutrionist Dr Azizah Othman said certain vitamins and minerals can help support the immune system in protecting against TB, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin D and zinc. She said vitamin D is particularly important for TB defence, as it acts like a biological “switch” that activates white blood cells to produce antimicrobial peptides that help kill TB-causing bacteria. “For those traveling and spending more time indoors or in crowded transport, a vitamin D3 supplement (around 1,000–2,000 IU) or 15 minutes of morning sun can keep this defence active.” She also reminded the public that wearing a mask remains one of the most effective external protections, especially during festive activities. – By QIRANA NABILLA MOHD RASHIDI

“Almost everyone uses a pen and most pens are made of plastic. Imagine how much plastic waste is generated when these are thrown away. “Envirozen is tackling this issue by introducing plantable pens, which could reduce plastic waste by up to 90%. Pens are always in demand, making this both a sustainable business and an environmentally friendly solution,” she said. With Malaysia estimated to generate more than one million tonnes of post-consumer plastic waste annually according to WWF-Malaysia, and with national strategies in place to eliminate single-use plastics by 2030, these plantable pens offer a simple way for consumers to reduce waste while promoting sustainable habits. Shalenee said by turning a simple everyday item into a sustainable alternative, she aims to encourage Malaysians to rethink how even small actions can contribute to reducing environmental waste. “I wanted to create a world free of plastic, so I’m exploring alternatives to everyday plastic products. As a chemical engineer, I understand the impact plastics have on our country, which is why I wanted to make a change. “Plantable pens are a great start to support this larger vision,” she said. According to Shalenee, once the ink runs out, users can simply plant the bottom of the pen, where the seeds are embedded, into a small pot or garden. The pens come with four types of seeds – tomato, brinjal, radish and spinach.

Beware of hidden TB infection risk, says expert PETALING JAYA: As Malaysians make preparations for the Chinese New Year celebrations and Ramadan, public health experts are warning about a hidden risk – early tuberculosis (TB) infections that often go unnoticed. According to Universiti it is quite difficult to contract TB from just one encounter. “Simply attending Chinese New Year gatherings is unlikely to be the main cause of catching PTB. “However, individuals who are known to be TB-positive and still infectious should avoid mixing with others without proper precautions, such as wearing a mask,” she said. being diagnosed when prominent symptoms develop and they are confirmed as PTB cases. “If you think you have symptoms, please get screened, especially if you come from TB outbreak areas, or have been in close contact with someone infected.”

Kebangsaan Malaysia public health specialist Prof Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, many infected individuals may appear healthy or show only mild symptoms, making the disease hard to detect. “This is why it’s so dangerous. Diagnosis can take weeks, months or even years, depending on a person’s immune system and access to healthcare for diagnosis and treatment,” she told theSun. Sharifa said pulmonary TB (PTB) is usually spread through repeated exposure or in constant contact with an infected person via coughing or saliva, adding that

Sharifa said the biggest mistake people make with TB symptoms is not seeking proper diagnosis from healthcare providers, which can result in unknowingly infecting others, prolonging the illness and increasing the risk of complications. “Many people no longer wear masks unless in high-risk situations. If you are at higher risk or have something infectious, such as flu, it’s important to wear a mask in public or when interacting with vulnerable individuals,” she said. Universiti Teknologi Mara

Sharifa added that certain groups are at higher risk of TB, including children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and those living with HIV. She emphasised that it is possible for TB patients to appear healthy and continue festive activities without knowing they are infectious. “PTB is very insidious and can mimic many other illnesses. Not supernatural: Youths may be on drugs

Teenagers most at risk of

mushroom vape abuse

PUCHONG: The abuse of mushroom vape has become a widespread gateway drug, according to TikToker Syed Barkath Amin Syed Mohd Tarmidzi. He said the increasingly cheap prices and easy access to illicit substances have placed teenagers among the most at-risk groups of becoming involved. Syed Barkath Amin added that peer influence remains a key factor, especially when youths want to appear bold or be accepted within their social circles. Syed Barkath also issued a specific warning about the use of “mushroom vape” or vape liquids containing hallucinogenic substances. “It looks like an ordinary vape, but the effects are different. If you’re not used to it, it can be very dangerous,” he said. According to the TikToker who creates awareness content on the dangers of drugs, users may experience intense visual hallucinations and impaired judgement. “There have been cases where users went out of control because of hallucinations.” He stressed that the long-term effects of drug abuse not only would damage physical health but also mental health. Some teenagers would eventually suffer from mental disorders and struggle to function normally in social settings. He advised teenagers to learn from other people’s cases and to look at the long-term consequences, not just the short-term thrill. He also urged parents to monitor their children wisely and seek early intervention if they notice behavioural changes. “Don’t wait until it becomes severe. The earlier we intervene, the easier it is to save their future,” he said. On Aug 3 last year, theSun had reported that even hardened drug addicts are steering clear of Magic Mushroom vape and warning others that using the substance could trigger panic attacks, blackouts and a total loss of control. sleeping and drug overdose. Some of them even experience hallucinations,” he told theSun recently. Syed Barkath Amin is a well-known TikToker who produces content related to the behaviour or mannerisms of illicit substance users. He said there have been cases where parents would bring their children to alternative medical practitioners to treat unusual behaviour, unaware that they were actually under the influence of drugs. “I’ve met parents who took their children everywhere for treatment. “It was only after their children were arrested and a urine test revealed they were positive for methamphetamine that the parents realised they are drug addicts,” he said. He added that a lack of awareness has caused many parents to miss the early warning “I once lost a close friend to a heart attack after prolonged drug use. He was only 36. People thought he was fine, but his heart had been pumping (under extreme pressure) non-stop. At some point, his body just couldn’t take it anymore,” he said. The loss of his former housemate was a turning point for him to quit completely after nearly experiencing an overdose and severe paranoia around 2014. “I didn’t sleep for five days, heard whispers, my heart was racing. That was when I realised if I continued, I might not survive.” Now more than a decade drug-free, he chose to rebuild his life by establishing Kolar Merah around the end of 2023 as a platform to help those facing similar struggles. “I thought instead of doing something negative, it’s better to use my experience to help others.”

PUCHONG: Former prison inmate Syed Barkath Amin Syed Mohd Tarmidzi said he produces awareness content on the dangers of drugs because many addicts are skilled at hiding their addiction. Syed Barkath Amin, who is also a TikToker, said most users are able to cover their tracks well, including himself at one time. “We can hide until we become ‘heavy users’ without our families realising it. We stay in our room a bit longer and our family thinks we’re doing work. “When we don’t eat, we’ll tell them that we’re sick. The truth is most of the time these drug addicts are hiding in their room because they haven’t slept for days while abusing drugs,” he said. Syed Barkath Amin, 36, added that some users may appear normal but are in fact under the continuous influence of drugs. “In reality, it is the result of sleep deprivation and substance abuse. If a child suddenly doesn’t sleep for five days, talks to themselves, appears to perform silat -like movements or becomes overly aggressive, don’t immediately assume it’s possession. “It could be the effects of not PUCHONG: Parents are to refrain from concluding that their children’s behavioural changes are due to mystical influences before exploring the possibility of substance abuse. But when someone who has gone through the same experience gives advice, they are more likely to accept it.” “In the early stages, the relapse rate reached 80%. However, after several years of operating, the success rate has improved to around 90% to 95%. “Before, out of 10 people, maybe only two would succeed. Now maybe only one or two would relapse,” he said. He noted that parents can seek help from the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) voluntarily before their child is arrested. “If you surrender voluntarily and the child agrees, there’s no punishment. They will receive counselling and monitoring.”

Kolar provides accommodation, transport and an internal leadership system for participants, most of whom are referred through the National Anti Drug Agency (Nada) or have prison records. Participants are screened at Kolar Merah to ensure they are not wanted by authorities, do not have severe mental health issues and genuinely have the determination to quit drugs. Two senators named co-perpetrators in ICC case

But a day later, he conceded defeat. “In any genuine democratic journey, the true test of leadership is not only how we campaign, but how we respond to the verdict of the people,” he said. “We recognise the overall outcome, and we respect the rule of law.” Hasina’s Awami League party was barred from taking part. – AFP BEIJING: China’s top court has issued a ruling confirming humans in cars with assisted driving technology are responsible for their vehicle, setting a nationwide benchmark as Beijing positions itself as a standards-setter in the car market. In its ruling, the court referred to a case in which a man relied on the technology while drunk and asleep at the wheel. Drivers are still responsible for ensuring road safety after activating assisted driving functions, China’s top court said in a “guiding case” issued on Friday. The reference case is a September ruling in southern Zhejiang province, in which a driver surnamed Wang was jailed and fined for fully relying on the assisted driving system while drunk. Wang installed a device to mimic hand grip on the steering wheel, set the car to drive then fell asleep in the passenger seat, the court said. Police found Wang after the car stopped in the middle of a road. “The on-board assisted driving system cannot replace the driver as the primary driving subject,” the Supreme People’s Court said. The driver “is still the one who actually performs the driving tasks and bears the responsibility to ensure driving safety”, it said. While most such systems used on the road specify that the driver is ultimately in control of the car, the court’s ruling now makes that a legal standard nationwide. Lower courts are to reference the judgment when deciding on similar cases. Beijing had already warned leading carmakers that safety rules would be more tightly enforced after a crash that killed three college students last March raised concerns over the advertising of cars as being capable of autonomous driving. – AFP Drivers responsible despite autonomous technology

Unclear if duo would face charges

MANILA: Two senators have been identified as co-perpetrators in ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s crimes against humanity trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Senators Ronald Dela Rosa and Christopher Go are among eight current and former officials named in a document dated Feb 13 and posted on the court website. ICC prosecutors have charged Duterte with three counts of crimes against humanity, alleging involvement in at least 76 murders as part of his “war on drugs”. “Duterte and his co-perpetrators shared a common plan or agreement to ‘neutralise’ alleged criminals (including those perceived or alleged to be associated with drug use, sale or production),” the prosecution document reads. Dela Rosa, the former national MUNICH: Senior officials at the Munich Security Conference discussed challenges in Southeast Asia, including how maritime disputes can turn into areas of cooperation without engaging in a zero-sum game. Singapore Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing and Asean Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn were fielding questions during a panel on maritime safety at the three-day conference, which began on Friday. On the South China Sea, Kao said the bloc and China have been negotiating for a code of conduct “because we want to make sure” the vast waterbody becomes a “sea of peace, stability and cooperation”. Asked whether increased deployment of naval ships by China and the US to the region was making the disputed waters “more dangerous”, Kao said both powers were “comprehensive strategic partners” of the bloc. “We have been engaging both superpowers through the Asean mechanisms,” Kao said. Chan said the island nation “does not see the situation in the region as a zero-sum game”. “It’s not in our interest to see this as a zero-sum game. In fact, if we think about it logically, the interests of China and the US converge in Southeast Asia. “Both countries have a shared interest in making sure that the safety and security of the ships going through this part of the region are well taken care of,” he said. – Bernama Asean eyes ‘sea of peace’

police chief, has previously said he believed he faced potential arrest and has not been seen publicly in months. Go, re-elected in May in a landslide victory, was a key Duterte lieutenant. A representative of Dela Rosa said they had not yet seen the document. Calls to Go were unreturned. It was not clear if any of the men named will face charges. Judges have rejected arguments that the 80-year-old Duterte was unfit to stand trial. Go and Dela Rosa have been named as co-perpetrators in acts that took place both while Duterte was mayor and later as president. Former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, who served as lawyer for Duterte in cases involving the so-called Davao Death Squad, is also among the eight men named.

Scrap social media vetting for tourists, Trump urged

US waives Venezuela oil sanctions

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s administration has authorised five major oil companies to operate in Venezuela. The Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) on Friday granted general licences to BP, Chevron, Eni, Repsol and Shell “authorising transactions related to oil or gas sector operations in Venezuela”, with certain conditions. The two-page general licence issued by Ofac requires any payments in oil and gas royalties go to accounts designated by the Treasury Department, which is consistent with Trump administration statements that Washington will manage assets in custody for the benefit of Venezuela. Trump and top appointees like Energy Secretary Chris Wright have been blunt in characterising Washington as a party controlling Venezuela’s oil resources for the foreseeable future. A second Ofac licence issued on Friday permits companies to negotiate for potential contracts “for certain investment in Venezuela”. However, the US agency will continue to bar participation by several countries, including China, Iran and Russia. “These general licences invite American and other aligned companies to play a constructive role in supporting economic recovery and responsible investment,” said a Trump administration media note that characterised the Ofac move as part of Trump’s commitment to “rapidly” reopen the oil industry. “The United States is committed to restoring Venezuela’s prosperity, safety, and security for the benefit of both the American and Venezuelan people.” Separately, the State

WASHINGTON: Two senators urged the Trump administration to abandon a proposal to require millions of foreign visitors to provide social media handles used over the past five years. The proposed policy from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would require travellers from countries in the visa waiver programme to submit social media data. “By requiring ߑ travellers to disclose their personal social media information, CBP will force people who simply want to visit family in the United States, Travel group warns of potential losses

countries, mostly in Europe, to visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa. They must complete an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation form, which under the change would require social media handles. The US is considering requiring all email addresses used over the last 10 years ߑ and names, birth dates, residences and birthplaces of parents, siblings, children and spouses. The US State Department in December said it was requiring all H-1B applicants and their dependents to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public” for the department to review social media posts by applicants. – Reuters Colombia using drones to spray drug fields with toxic chemical BOGOTA: Colombia has resumed spraying drug fields with a toxic chemical using drones, the US embassy in Bogota said on Friday, after a meeting between the two nations’ leaders eased tensions. In 2015, it suspended aerial spraying of glyphosate, which has been linked to cancer in humans, over concerns about its negative health impact. President Donald Trump and President Gustavo Petro met last week at the White House to smooth diplomatic tensions. They pledged to resume military cooperation between Washington and Bogota, and to jointly combat rebels and drug cartels. Colombia announced in December that it would resume the spraying of drug crops under growing pressure from the Trump administration, which is demanding a tougher anti-drug policy in the world’s top cocaine producer. “Colombia has launched drone eradication of coca crops” with support from the US, Washington’s mission in Bogota wrote on social media. “This technology could be game-changing, lower coca cultivation, more security in Colombia, less deadly drugs reaching American streets and more lives saved.” The Colombian Justice Ministry presented the drug crop eradication policy in December. It said drones would fly 1.5m above coca fields and carry out “controlled” spraying to prevent the chemical from affecting communities. – AFP

Applicants for immigrant and non-immigrant visas have been required to share that information since 2019. In December, the department said the proposal could take effect as early as this month. “It was a challenge for us and a story of resilience.” Sylvia said the station would focus on social issues and the humanitarian situation, which remains grave despite a ceasefire since October. “The radio station’s goal is to be the voice of the people in the Gaza Strip and to express their problems and suffering,” said Shereen Khalifa, part of the broadcasting team. The station is planning to broadcast for two hours per day from Gaza and longer from Nablus. It is available on FM and online. Shereen said stable internet access had been one of the biggest obstacles in setting up the station, but added that it was now able to broadcast uninterrupted. “Under the siege, it is natural that modern equipment necessary for radio broadcasting cannot enter, so we have made the most of what is available.” – AFP

Sylvia, a radio host on fledgling station Here Gaza , delivers her broadcast from a well-lit room, as members of the technical team check levels and mix backing tracks on a sound deck. “This radio station was a dream we worked to achieve for many months and sometimes without sleep,” she said.
