The Spaniard praised the contributions of all players and welcomed the return of key figures like Hector Hevel and Figueiredo, noting their presence has strengthened the squad. However, he cautioned that they must be managed carefully after long spells out due to injury. Looking ahead, Xisco stressed the importance of maintaining focus and intensity as JDT face a congested fixture schedule, with up to eight matches in 28 days, including continental com mitments. “We have many matches in a short period, with long travels and tough opponents. Rotation will be important because it is impossible for players to perform at the same level every three days with travel involved. “Our target is always three points. When you wear the JDT shirt, the objective is to win and to stay at the top. We must keep our ambition, our power and continue to grow as a team every day,” he said. Meanwhile, Imigresen FC coach Yusri Che Lah lamented his team’s inability to last the full 90 minutes against JDT, despite a solid first-half defensive effort. “We knew it would be tough, so the priority was to manage the goal difference. Getting two goals was a small positive,” he said. He cited fatigue and lapses in concentration against JDT’s relentless attack as decisive factors, admitting the team also missed key chances to change the game’s dynamic. As newly promoted debutants in the Super League, Yusri insisted his squad must find a way to bounce back quickly. – Bernama

“The first part of the game was more difficult because they defended very deeply and closed the spaces in the final third. “After we scored the first and second goals, we had more space and controlled the game,” he said at a post-match press conference. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities, Xisco said his team must improve its finishing.

The Southern Tigers went 1-0 with a 21st min ute strike by Joao Figueiredo in the first half, while a mistake by Imigresen defender Milani Bueno resulted in an own goal in the 59th minute. Bergson Da Silva scored JDT’s third goal a minute later, Marcos Guilherme scored in the 66th minute and Da Silva wrapped the match up with the fifth goal in injury time.

National futsal squad suffer heavy defeat THE national futsal squad concluded their Asia Futsal Cup 2026 campaign with a heavy 6-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their final Group D match at the Jakarta International Velodrome in Indonesia on Sunday night. The result saw Malaysia exit the tournament without a win after earlier losses of 4-1 to defending champions Iran and a 7-0 thrashing by Afghanistan in their opening two matches. In Sunday’s encounter, Saudi Arabia, who had also already been eliminated, raced to a 4-0 lead at half time through goals by Fahad Muhalhil Rudayni in the fifth minute, Eihab Mohamed in the eighth and 16th min utes, and Fahad Awadh in the 12th minute. Eihab completed his hattrick with Saudi’s fifth goal in the 23rd minute before Abdullah Mohammed Alaqeeli added the sixth in the 35th minute.

New league structure for MLBB THE introduction of a partnership based league structure for next sea son’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) is expected to better safe guard the welfare of teams and play ers. Former professional MLBB player Faris Zakaria, better known as Soloz, said the new structure is particularly timely as several teams are currently struggling to stay afloat due to the high operational costs of running an esports organisation. “For me, the changes introduced

by MPL MY will certainly secure player welfare. Previously, teams often strug gled financially, as esports requires significant funding. “With this new structure, league organisers will select truly stable teams, particularly from a financial standpoint. This should reduce the risk of competing teams facing money problems in the future,” he said when met recently. It was reported that Aero Esports had been banned for life from partici pating in MPL MY after being found to have outstanding financial arrears dating back to October 2025. The team was also found to have committed several contract breaches during Seasons 15 and 16. Soloz believes the partnership based league structure will make MPL MY more competitive and help nur ture more new talent. “For example, if teams from out side join MPL MY, they are likely to provide more proper facilities than before. “This development will indirectly make the league more competitive and encourage healthy growth. It could also help produce more skilled players in the future,” he said.
