Bottas, who spent last year on the side lines as Mercedes’s reserve driver, revealed there are inevitably areas for improvement after driving the Cadillac. “It’s great to be back!” Bottas said. “Also, with this brand-new team in the sport, it’s a really unique situation. This was the first time I drove this car, so it was just good to be out there. “Obviously performance-wise, I wouldn’t say much yet but the main thing is we got some running done and, at the end, we got a little bit of a longer run in too. So these are the first steps of de-bugging and getting every thing to work better.” Cadillac will reveal their first-ever F1 car livery in unique fashion, airing an advertise ment during Super Bowl 60 on Feb 8. This week’s event in Barcelona is one of three pre-season tests, with a pair of three day sessions taking place in Bahrain (Feb 11 13 and Feb 18-20). Only the final test will be aired on television. The 2026 season, with 11 teams on the grid for the first time in a decade, starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8. –The Independent BRIEFS Bradman cap fetches record price A BAGGY green cap worn by Donald Bradman fetched A$460,000 (RM1.1m) at public auction in Australia yesterday, a record price for a cap worn by the Australian cricket legend. The price paid for the cap, once a 16.5% buyer’s premium of A$75,900 (RM209,000) is added, totals A$535,900 (RM1,5m), beating the previous record holder, a baggy green from the same series – against India in 1947/48 – that was sold in 2024. That cap was bought for A$479,700 (RM1.3m), including the buyer’s premium, at auction. Bradman, who died aged 92 in 2001, had given the cap sold yesterday to Indian all-rounder Sriranga Wasudev ‘Ranga’ Sohoni. Inside, it bears the inscriptions: ‘D.G. Bradman’and‘S.W. Sohoni’. Back in Bradman’s day the baggy green cap was awarded for each series they played – a contrast to the present day where only one is handed out on Test debut. Pakistan delay call on T20 World Cup participation PAKISTAN cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi said yester day a final decision on the team’s participation in next month’s Twenty20 World Cup will be delayed by up to a week, keeping open a possible boycott over Bangladesh’s withdrawal.
