Kay Tse soars in Malaysia at first stop of world tour

H ONG Kong singer Kay Tse’s “Tidal” World Tour 2025 Live in Malaysia, which was the first stop of the tour and Tse’s first-ever solo tour concert in Malaysia, concluded on a high note at Idea Live Arena recently with the venue filled to the brim with cheering fans. The concert was brought to life through five expressive themes – ignition, dazzle, melancholy, charisma and warmth. Across 26 songs and over two hours on stage, Tse led the audience through an ebb-and-flow of emotions as dynamic as the tides. High-voltage opening ignites arena The concert started with an instrumental version of Zit Ngoi Sang Zi ( Problems Upon Problems ), as the lighting pulsed in sync with the tempo, instantly raising the intensity of the entire venue. Tse then launched into a powerful five-song sequence – Chou Yahn Jit ( Gloomy Festival ), Zi Sik Fan Zi ( Beauties ), Tau Kwai ( Helmet ), Si Jan Sin ( Private Line ) and Zit Ngoi Sang Zi ( Problems Upon Problems ), delivering a surge of rhythm and energy that signalled the Tidal Tour was in motion. Chicago-inspired glamour meets high-octane theatrical energy on stage The dancers launched this theme with a three-minute 11-second jazz routine, setting the tone for the “dazzle” segment. Tse then took the spotlight with a captivating sequence of performances, including San Kei Neoi Haap Dik Teoi Guk Sang Wut ( Wonder Woman’s Retirement ), Laai Cong ( Lie-in ) and Ngi Gei Wui Jik Luk ( Memoirs of a Geisha ). With seamless transitions in lighting, choreography, expressions and rhythm, she delivered a theatrical display of feminine charisma. Melancholy: Soft glow at the piano As the piano intro began, the entire arena fell silent. Nin Dou Ji Go ( Song of the Year ) opened the “melancholy” chapter with gentle yet unwavering emotion. The audience was drawn in, with many fans moved to tears. Tse continued with Cui Ruo ( Weak ) and Sap Zi Gaa ( The Cross ), her delicate vocals floating through the soft lighting, unveiling the tender, vulnerable side of human emotions. The entire segment was so still that only her voice lingered in the air – one of the most moving moments of the night. Sweet duet melts hearts with marital chemistry As the venue lights dimmed, special guest Louis Cheung made a surprise appearance, instantly igniting the loudest cheers and screams of the night. Taking the stage, he humorously shared heartfelt reflections on his music and life journey, joking that he, too, has been in the industry for 20 years. He recalled starting out as a singer and songwriter before transitioning into acting, and candidly remarked that his greatest achievement in life is having to meet his other half when he got into this field, in his words, “winning my wife’s heart”. Drawing laughter and applause from the audience, Cheung playfully added that while many fans were delighted to receive autographs and photo opportunities with Tse that evening, he already possesses the most precious autograph of all, on their marriage certificate. He went on to encourage the crowd to shower Tse with their warmest applause and cheers in continued support of her musical journey. The couple then joined hands to perform Sang Ming Zi Faa ( Flower of Life ), delivering a duet filled with tenderness and chemistry. Their exchanged glances, gentle smiles and intimate interactions melted the hearts of everyone in the venue. Cheung later surprised the audience with a solo performance of Mou Faa Mou Gwo ( No Flower, No Fruit ), choosing Malaysia as the location for its first-ever live performance worldwide. This special moment made Malaysian fans the first to witness the song’s live debut. He followed up with the high-energy David Harleyson , infusing the venue with infectious rhythm and once again driving the

concert to a thrilling climax.

High-energy run of fast-paced hits A powerful back-to-back run of upbeat numbers kept the momentum surging, as Zi Leoi Haang Gaan ( Deceit in Every Word ) and Sai Bat Loeng Laap ( Irreconcilable ) delivered driving rhythms that sent the crowd into another wave of excitement. The atmosphere then shifted into a wave of nostalgia as Tse performed Ngah Sheung Dik Bo Yir ( Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea ), a special work for the beloved Japanese animation Ponyo , for which she personally penned the Cantonese lyrics. She followed with one of many audience members’ most cherished childhood memories, the Cantonese opening theme of Doraemon . As iconic visuals filled the screen, the venue erupted into a collective moment of remembrance, with fans singing along in unison as childhood memories came flooding back. Tse then stepped off the stage during Happily Ever After and Ngo Oi Cha Chaan Teng ( I Love HK-style cafe ), moving through the audience to greet fans at close range. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, hands reaching out amid waves of cheers and applause. Deeply moving moment with Wedding Invitation Street The heartfelt segment opened gently with 3/8 , setting a tender tone that continued to unfold through Jyu Gwo Tin Jam ( Rain has Passed ). When the long-awaited opening notes of Hei Tip Gaai ( Wedding Invitation Street ) finally rang out, the song slowly emerged and instantly struck an emotional chord with the audience. The entire venue sang along in unison as fans raised their phones, creating a sea of softly swaying, multi-coloured lights. Before performing 50/50 , Tse paused and, with a trembling voice, shared her heartfelt reflections. She spoke of her late close friend Khalil Fong, recalling the precious years and musical journey they once shared, and described him as an incredibly important presence in her life. As she reflected on life’s highs and lows and its inherent unpredictability, emotion filled her eyes. Through this song, she expressed her hope to convey her understanding of life and a sense of gentle strength to everyone present. She softly added that she wished her music could continue to accompany, support and encourage listeners through different chapters of their lives. 50/50 then took centre stage as the finale of the main segment, portraying the intertwined realities of life’s peaks and valleys. The performance carried the emotions to their most tender and sincere point, leaving behind a night filled with resonance, warmth and unforgettable memories. Encore: Three-song sing-along The encore began with Nei Mun Dik Hang Fuk ( Your Happiness ), prompting yet another full-venue sing-along as warm, touching energy filled the arena. This was followed by Zoi Ngo Zau ( Take Me ) and Saan Lam Dou ( Hillwood Road ) as the final two songs of the night. Bathed in a sea of lights and thunderous applause, Kay bid farewell, leaving behind a beautiful and unforgettable closing moment for the first stop of the Tidal World Tour. “To be able to bring the first stop of the Tidal tour to Malaysia, and to share the highs and lows of my life over the years through these songs and this music with all of you, truly fills me with joy and gratitude. I sincerely thank you for your constant support and warmth. I hope that my music and I can continue to accompany you on your journey,” Tse shared emotionally.
