No clue Independent Investigation Committee unable to identify who falsified documents: FAM

SEA GAMES

T HE Independent Investigation Committee (IIC), set up by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to probe into the alleged forged documents scandal, has said that it could not conclusively determine who falsified the impugned documents. This, it said in a statement shared by FAM, was because the certifying Notary Public did not cooperate and its inability to locate the seven players’ agents despite reasonable efforts. The statement, however, made it clear that the investigation found serious failures in oversight, due diligence and administrative controls within FAM’s management that permitted this incident to happen without detection or intervention. “FAM is advised to lodge a police report immediately, take appropriate internal disciplinary action where oversight failed and implement

disciplinary proceedings against FAM general secretary Datuk Noor Azman Rahman to determine whether he failed to exercise the requisite level of oversight and due diligence. “This recommendation is made without prejudice and does not imply any findings of the general secretary’s personal involvement in the alleged falsification,” it added. The report also stated that FIFA’s case had exposed weaknesses in documentation processes, agent oversight, verification protocols and supervising structures within FAM. The IIC proposes that FAM implement comprehensive structural and procedural reforms to strengthen oversight and administrative controls, while also taking preventive measures to avoid a recurrence and restore credibility and integrity of FAM operations. – Bernama

structural reform that the IIC recommends. “These actions are essential to prevent any recurrence and to restore credibility and integrity of FAM’s operations. “Fifa’s case against FAM and the seven players is of public interest. The IIC is of the view that this report should be made public,” the IIC said in its 59 page report to the FAM on Fifa’s sanctions against FAM and seven Harimau Malaya heritage players. FAM said it received the report from the IIC, chaired by former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif, at 3.30pm on Tuesday. The FAM Executive Committee will hold a special meeting on Monday (Dec 22) to discuss the report’s findings in detail before deciding on its next move. The IIC also recommends that the FAM Disciplinary Committee initiate internal

Angie overcomes world champ for Wai Kru gold SEA GAMES debutant Angie Yan Jia Chi created a sensation when she won the Muay Thai Wai Kru gold medal at the 33rd edition of the biennial Games at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok yesterday. The three-time gold medallist in the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) Senior World Championship U-23 division, winning in 2023 (Thailand), 2024 (Greece) and 2025 (Turkiye), produced an outstanding performance to overcome even Thai world champion Thanawan Thongduang. Jia Chi’s clean and structured performance allowed her to amass 9.33 points to pip Thanawan, who could only accumulate 9.20 points in the final. Both exponents train under the same coach in Thailand. The 21-year-old Jia Chi said she was extremely happy and proud that all the hard work she put in during training in Thailand paid off. “During my preparations here (in Thailand), I never returned home for a year. I spent my time training and participating in competitions. “I am super relieved that it’s all over. I can’t wait to go home to my family and spend time with them,” said the student of the Thailand National Sports University, Bangkok Campus, pursuing a Master’s degree in Tourism and Recreation. Jia Chi shared that her preparation for the SEA Games suffered a setback when she injured both her knees in 2023, adding that she had to rely on painkillers to endure the tough training sessions. “Due to my hectic schedule, I did not have time to undergo a proper rehabilitation process,” said the eldest of three siblings. Jia Chi’s success marks the national Muay Thai camp’s first gold medal in this edition. – Bernama Deportivo La Coruna 1 Real Mallorca 0, Eibar 0 Elche 1, Eldense 1 Real Sociedad 2, Gijon 0 Valencia 2, Guadalajara 0 Barcelona 2.

NATIONAL silat exponent Ummi Mashitah Hassan delivered a remarkable performance by clinching the gold medal in the women’s Class C (55–60kg) at the Thailand 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok despite having taken up the sport only two years ago. Competing in her maiden appearance at the biennial Games at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Ummi Mashitah produced an impressive display to defeat home favourite Anuntaya Nyompan 104–88 on the final day of pencak silat competition. The 22-year-old athlete from Miri admitted she had no background in silat before trying the sport two years ago. She said discipline and intensive training of up to six hours a day helped propel her from competing in low-level competitions to the SEA Games stage. “I only played futsal previously. I had zero basics in silat before joining a Gayong Ghaib silat club in my village, and that was when I developed an interest.

“ Alhamdulillah , with hard work and trust in Allah’s blessings, and continuous training under my coach (Siti Rahmah Mohamed Nasir), I managed to reach this level,” she told reporters yesterday. Ummi said her perseverance also earned her selection to represent Sarawak, where she won the women’s Class B title at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in her home state. She also revealed that she faced health challenges ahead of the SEA Games after contracting influenza A, which affected her fitness and body weight. “There were lingering effects after the fever, and my weight dropped to between 53kg and 54kg at one point. “So I had to gain weight again. Every morning I made sure to eat and drink three bottles of water to qualify for Class C,” she said. Ummi dedicated her victory to Siti Rahmah for the guidance and mentorship provided by the former world champion throughout her journey. – Bernama gold medal. Malaysia topped the standings with a perfect record of four wins from four matches to collect eight points, making amends for the silver medal they settled for at the previous edition in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Team manager Vijayalingam Vythilingam was delighted that the national men’s squad managed to meet the target of two golds from this biennial Games. “The key for the success is because they were playing consistently as a team. This was an all-round effort by the team and that’s what pushed them to these two golds,”he told Bernama.
