8-under 64 yesterday. Korda said that some minor tweaks to her putting game had been the difference-maker in a round that included nine birdies. “I would say yesterday was just missing by centimeters,“ Korda said of her putting performance in the first round. “They were burning edges, lipping out. “This has been kind of the common theme this year. I feel like I played so much better than my score has shown. “So I honestly just went to the putting green for five minutes and simplified it. Just didn’t do too much.” Other notables include Jennifer Kupcho and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko at 7-under after rounds of 68; Charley Hull of England (69) at 6 under; and US Women’s Open winner Maja Stark of Sweden and English phenom Lottie Woad at 5 under after matching 69s. – AFP/Agencies
the LPGA season. She knows what it will take to win the Tour Championship. “As I always say, all the winners here, the score like 20-plus something (under par), which is really low-scoring,“ she said. “We just need to make more and more and more.” Thitikul leads by three strokes from South Korea’s Kim Sei-young, who shot a 6-under 66 yesterday that leaves her firmly in contention at 11-under. Japan’s Nasa Hataoka and South Korea’s Lee So-mi are a further shot back on 10-under. Hataoka rattled off her second consecutive 5-under round of 67, while first round leader Lee had to settle for 2-under 70, a day after an opening 64. Former world No. 1 Nelly Korda is in a cluster of four players tied for fifth on 9-under. Korda, who struggled to a 71 in the first round, moved back into the hunt with an
THAILAND’S world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul charged up the leaderboard at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship yesterday, carding a 9-under 63 to open up a three-shot lead heading into the third round overnight. Thitikul, the defending champion, reeled off nine birdies and nine pars in a flawless second round at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida. She moves to 14-under at the halfway stage. The 22-year-old Asian star is aiming to win the richest tournament in women’s golf for a second straight year, with the winner receiving a US$4 million (17m) top prize. “Still had no complaint with like a bogey-free and then nine birdies, so I’ll take it,“ Thitikul said. She won the PIF Saudi Ladies International in February, followed by the Mizuho Americas Open and the Buick LPGA Shanghai during

JAKE PAUL has claimed that he will knock Anthony Joshua out and fight Tyson Fury next year. The YouTube sensation-turned-pugilist is set to face off with two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua in Miami, Florida, come Dec 19 in a bout which will be streamed worldwide on Netflix . And while it’s clear that the 28-year-old isn’t overlooking his current opponent, he has also revealed his plans for future bouts. Speaking during a press conference yesterday, Paul was asked if he has plans on ruining Joshua’s future endeavours with Matchroom Boxing. He replied: “Yeah, 100%. It’s a massive mistake to look past this, seriously. “I’m putting a stint in all of those plans. Don’t book anything, don’t arrange flights and hotels. I’m knocking this guy out, becoming the CEO of Matchroom Boxing and changing the plans. Then it’s going to be me vs Tyson Fury next year.” When asked if he feels disrespected by Joshua’s future plans and Eddie Hearn’s comments about the fight in particular, Paul added: “Yeah, look at the last time they came to America and what the plans they had were. Andy Ruiz stopped that, so this is Andy Ruiz 2.0.” When asked about how he looks at his own future plans, Joshua added: “Yeah, if I’m going to be honest, I’m going to break his face, I’m going to break his body up, I’m going to stomp all over him. That’s my mentality, right? That’s a fighter’s mentality. “And I know what’s in my heart, I know what’s in my mind, and I’m here to compete. I’m here to
prove myself, that I’m the better fighter. So I’m looking forward to it and I’ll do that until I’m finished fighting, no matter who it is.” When asked about who the opponents are who are potentially lined up for him in 2026, Joshua held his cards close to his chest, as he replied: “My focus is on Jake Paul,” before adding: “They’re not signed, they’re not sealed, but they’re opportunities, really. “They’re just opportunities in the game, but my main focus that’s signed and sealed is Jake Paul. So that’s all I want in front of me.” It’s not the first time that Paul has been involved with the Fury family. Back in February 2023, the 28-year-old was handed the first loss of his professional boxing career by Tommy Fury, with the Englishman securing a split-decision win after eight hard-fought rounds. While there have been talks of a rematch between the two taking place, it appears as though Paul now has his heart set on facing two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson. However, the issue in a fight ever coming to fruition is that Fury announced his retirement from the world of boxing earlier this year, following consecutive losses at the hands of undefeated Ukrainian, Oleksandr Usyk. Taking to social media in January to break the news, Fury said: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it’s been a blast. “I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this, Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.” – Express Newspapers
