Datuk remanded over cooking oil smuggling KOTA BHARU: A man with the title “Datuk”, suspected of being involved in a smuggling syndicate that siphoned 11,050kg of subsidised cooking oil, has been remanded for three days starting today. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid after allowing a police application to investigate the 28-year-old suspect further under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The man is being investigated for illegal possession of controlled goods, including subsidised cooking oil. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. – Bernama IPOH: A woman and her son were killed after the motorcycle they were riding skidded and crashed into an electricity pole along Jalan Huntly in Kampung Sungai Batu near Pantai Remis on Friday. Manjung district police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman reported that the incident occurred at about 12.45am, and the 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. “The victims are believed to have been travelling from Pantai Remis town towards Kampung Sungai Batu when the woman lost control of the motorcycle, skidded onto the left road shoulder and crashed into a Tenaga Nasional Berhad pole. Her 10-year-old son also sustained injuries and was rushed to a clinic, but succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment,”he said in a statement on Saturday.
