I NSPIRED by childhood memories of making paper boats, fashion designer Hatta Dolmat unveiled his latest collection themed “Perahu Kertas” (Paper Boat) in conjunction with Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2025. Hatta, 43, said the collection symbolises his 20-year journey in the fashion industry, while also celebrating a decade of his involvement with KLFW. “This 20-year journey has been like a voyage. At times, the sea (is) beautiful – at other times, stormy. Sometimes, we need to stop at a jetty to rest before continuing to chase our dreams. “To me, a paper boat is small and simple, but it represents the spirit of moving forward despite being fragile,” he told reporters after the recent showcase of his new collection at KLFW 2025. Unlike his previous collections, which were associated with bold colours and daring motifs, the collection features simple and easy-to-wear designs. He said his latest collection comprises over 30 clothing designs, including shirts and blouses made from basic fabrics such as cotton, linen and denim. The styles feature loose cuts, cropped jackets and long trousers. Hatta’s style remains visible through the delicate pintuck stitching and the play of silhouettes, while soft tones such as nude, off-white, baby blue and butter yellow were chosen to maintain a minimalist yet exclusive feel, in line with the quiet luxury concept he embraces.

Hatta says his collection represents the spirit of moving forward.
“This is a very personal collection. The structure and pleating technique – my identity – are still there, but this time, people can picture themselves wearing my creations, not just watching them on the runway. “It’s a gesture of appreciation to my loyal followers who have supported me throughout this decade on the KLFW stage. This is my way of giving back to them,” he said. In addition to showcasing his clothing line, Hatta also launched a perfume line called Hope, in collaboration with influencer Opai. “This is the first time I’m combining fashion with fragrance.
