Getting started with journaling: Beginner’s toolkit
Journaling is not back being trendy because it never really left.
NEW to journaling? Here’s everything you need to know to begin without the pressure. Pick your journal Choose a format that fits your personality and purpose: • Lined notebooks for straightforward writing • Dot-grid or blank pages for sketching or bullet journaling • Ring-bound journals if you want flexibility to add or rearrange pages Choose your tools You don’t need a drawer full of pens to get started, just one that feels good to write with. • Try gel pens, fine-liners or brush pens • Add colour and personality with highlighters, washi tape and stickers Start simple Don’t worry about creating a masterpiece.
Begin with: • A favourite quote • A list of things you love • A “why I’m journaling” statement Build a habit • Set aside 10 minutes, 2–3 times a week • Keep your journal in plain sight • Link journaling to another daily habit, like your morning tea or evening wind down
