M AN UTD new boy Bryan Mbeumo is aiming high after his £71 million (RM402m) move, setting his sights on surpassing last season’s impressive tally of 20 Premier League goals. The versatile forward believes he can elevate his performance at Old Trafford and become the solution to United’s lacklustre scoring record of just 44 League goals in the previous campaign. Mbeumo expressed his ambition, stating: “As a striker and for myself, I always want to be better than I was yesterday. “I’m very demanding of myself and I always try to do my best. I don’t like to put limits on myself as well.” Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Mbeumo is ready to adapt to any position that

“Everyone sees in the past years. He can shoot, he can cross, he can do crazy ball. Yeah, for a striker, you just enjoy that.” Mbeumo is hoping to nurture a chemistry on and off the training pitch with United’s Portuguese talisman before the club launch the 2025/26 campaign against Arsenal on Aug 17. “I think it’s a little bit of everything. You earn experience from everyone. So it’s always good to speak to someone like this,” Mbeumo said. “But at the end, I think on the pitch, when you’re smart like he is, I think you don’t even need to think a lot. “You just need to make the run and he’s going to play you in the right space every time. “But of course, you can have a little discussion to make him know how I prefer the balls and how I’m feeling the best to have the ball. “But at a certain point, there is only one way, even if it’s not the one you like, you have to do the run and he’s going to put the ball in a good position.” – The Independent/Agencies

“But with Brentford I used to also play as a No. 10 in the pocket or even as a No. 9. I can play all those positions. “Of course it will help me, because I’ve played in many formations before. But obviously it’s different because it’s a new time now and every season is different. “But whatever position the gaffer wants to put me in, I will play there.” When asked on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast who he was most looking forward to playing alongside, Mbeumo said: “Of course, Bruno (Fernandes). Of course, yeah.

football, you have to be adaptable and to be able to play in a few other positions than

what you’d say is your best. But I think it’s really good to gain experience.

“Obviously I played as a winger mainly at Brentford, but I don’t have one specific position where I feel I can do the best.

MANCHESTER CITY have re-signed James Trafford for £27 million (RM157m) from newly-promoted Burnley. Trafford joins on a five-year deal after rejecting Newcastle to return to his former club, with City possessing the option to extend it for a further season. City, who sold the 22-year-old to Burnley two years ago, activated the matching rights clause they put in that deal when Newcastle agreed a fee with the promoted club. And Trafford, a long-term target for Eddie Howe, decided against going to St. James’ Park in favour of a move to the former Premier League champions – the latest blow in what has been a frustrating transfer window for the Magpies, having already lost out in their pursuits of Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. “Rejoining City is such a special and proud moment both for me and my family. “I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City,” said Trafford. “This is the place I call home – it’s a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play. “I am also very excited and honoured to have been given the opportunity to work under Pep and with such a world-class group

of players. “I am still very young and hungry to keep learning and improving – and I know there is no better environment than Manchester City to help make me become the best goalkeeper I can be. “I will do everything I can to help this great club look to achieve even more success.” Trafford has been brought in to provide healthy competition to Ederson, who City believe will stay, despite suggestions in Turkey that he has agreed personal terms with Galatasaray. Ederson has entered the last year of his contract but remains a favourite of Pep Guardiola. However, City expect his arrival to lead to the departure of Stefan Ortega. While the German is not close to a move, City anticipate there will be interest and that Ortega will not want to be the third-choice goalkeeper. Trafford becomes the fifth signing of City’s summer, joining midfielders Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, left-back Rayan Ait Nouri and back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli. He has taken their summer spending up to around £140 million (RM812m) and their total expenditure in 2025 past £300 million (RM1.75 billion). – The Independent
