Championing public health

Dr Maulana achieved academic success at MSU and today he continues to inspire students with his passion.

D R Teuka Maulana works as a university lecturer in the master’s degree pro gramme in tropical medi cine at Syiah Kuala University Medical Faculty, in Aceh Province, Indonesia. He plays a vital role in educating and inspiring the next generation of medical professionals, and currently serves as Secretary of Tropical Medicine/Emerging and Re emerging zoonotic diseases. As a proud alumnus of Management and Science University (MSU), where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Management/Business in 2019 at the university’s Graduate School of Management (GSM), Dr Maulana today works a lecturer in Indonesia. Dr Maulana specialises in the field of communicable disease control. His areas of focus include epidemiology, disease surveillance, and other related public health disciplines. These subjects, he explains, are not only academically significant but are also highly relevant o MSU nurtures leaders in various fields of medicine

in today’s global health landscape. “I truly enjoy my job,” he shared. “Every morning when I wake up, there is a feeling of excitement because I work in a field that I feel passionate about and enjoy,” he said. Dr Maulana’s current research focuses on vector-borne diseases, particularly those spread by mosquitoes, such as malaria and dengue. By studying the behaviour and biology of these disease vectors, he is helping develop better detection methods and preventive strategies. His research plays a vital role in the ongoing battle against diseases that continue to affect millions across the globe. Beyond research, Dr Maulana finds great satisfaction in his role as an educator. “Many of my students, especially future medical doctors, are very interested in what I teach,” he said. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see them engaged and eager to learn.” “My students appreciate these hands-on learning experiences, and they are always enthusiastic about

Dr Maulana’s journey to academic success began with uncertainty. In 2013 he left Indonesia to study in Malaysia, a country he had never visited before. “I was nervous,” he admitted. “It was my first time going abroad, and I was not sure if I could adapt, especially with the language barrier.” The spoken and written English used in Malaysia was different from what he had studied at home, and the cultural shift was initially overwhelming.
