July 8. “While out of the squad (at Juventus), I was able to train in great condition, but I missed playing friendlies. I had to start from scratch at Liverpool and that held me back. “I hope (next season) it’s my season. My dream is to participate in the World Cup.” Inzaghi leaves Inter SIMONE INZAGHI has left his role as Inter Milan head coach after his side succumbed to a historic demolition in the Champions League final. Inzaghi failed to guide the Nerazzurri to the fabled European crown in Munich, suffering a brutal 5-0 thrashing at the hands of PSG – the
price tag on his head, having set the footballing world alight as part of Italy’s Euros triumph in 2021. He nevertheless ended the season as a Premier League champion and is currently targeting a return to pre-season training on July 8. But asked about a return to his homeland, the Italy international told La Gazzetta dello Sport : “That’s something to think about during the summer. “My family, my agent and I have a great relationship with Liverpool, and the goal is to be ready for the pre-season. We’ll find the best solution for everyone.” “I work every day with a Liverpool programme to be in top shape for the tests on
biggest margin of defeat ever seen in the competition’s final. It was his second attempt at clearing the final Champions League final, having previously lost to Manchester City 1-0 in the 2023 final. Heartbreak in Bavaria compounded Inter’s woes in what was a devastating season climax, coming eight days after. Inzaghi is now expected to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, who have been without a permanent head coach since the dismissal of Jorge Jesus in May. “The club and Simone Inzaghi’s paths separate,” Inter said in a statement. “This is the decision taken by mutual agreement after the meeting that took place after missing out on the Serie A title to Napoli on a dramatic final day.” Inzaghi’s run at Inter was anything but a failure. He won everything there was to win domestically, leading Inter to one Scudetto , two Coppa Italia titles and three Supercoppa Italiana triumphs across his four seasons at the San Siro.

Chiesa thinking of home LIVERPOOL forward Federico Chiesa admits a return to Italy is “something to think about” after becoming all but an afterthought during his first season at Anfield. The 27-year-old endured a frustrating maiden campaign in the Premier League, in which he featured just six times with only one start under his belt since arriving late from Juventus in August for £10 million (RM55m). It was a fee that looked a bargain at the time, with Liverpool securing the services of a player that only three years earlier had a nine-figure

Florian Wirtz
F LORIAN WIRTZ has furiously denied rumours that he is demanding to wear an iconic shirt number at Liverpool. The Reds have made a bold start to the summer window by entering talks over a club-record move for the Germany international. Negotiations are still ongoing but he is thought to be keen on moving to Anfield. Earlier this week, it was reported by Sky Germany that Wirtz “would like” to wear the No. 10 shirt currently occupied by Alexis Mac Allister. He has worn the number at Bayer Leverkusen for the last two seasons and was said to be keen on taking it at Anfield. However, the 22-year-old has categorically denied those claims in a furious statement. Wirtz posted a short written message on his Instagram story, which read: “Who says I want the 10? I respect players. Don’t believe everything what’s written,” followed by a clown emoji. Giving the shirt to Wirtz would risk upsetting Mac Allister, who was delighted to inherit the number upon his arrival at Anfield two years ago. Speaking at the time, he said: “I know how important the No. 10 is in football. I had the possibility to take the No. 8 as well, which is a big number for this club because of (Steven) Gerrard, of course. “But I decided for No. 10 because I used it a lot of times, in Argentina, in Brighton U-23s. It’s a number I really like and that’s why I chose it.” It remains to be seen which number Wirtz will wear at Liverpool if his
proposed move to Merseyside goes ahead. Terms still need to be agreed at club level, with Bayer Leverkusen said to be holding out for around £120 million (RM660m). Liverpool have already submitted an offer in the region of £105 million (RM578m), according to Sky Sports . The report adds that Wirtz only wants to join the Reds despite additional interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. It was previously reported that Wirtz chose to prioritise a move to Liverpool due to the possibility of starting more games. According to Bild , he did not receive assurances from Bayern Munich with the question of his role “not finally resolved”. They were reportedly planning to start Jamal Musiala, who recently signed a long-term contract extension, ahead of Wirtz. This led to him facing a straight choice between Liverpool and Manchester City. During initial talks, both clubs were said to have guaranteed Wirtz ‘a central role in attack’ before he eventually settled on joining the Reds. With discussions thought to be progressing behind the scenes, it may not be long before a breakthrough is made. – Express Newspapers Wirtz pours cold water on jersey number demand at Liverpool
