The move has been seen as a potential breakthrough in Asean’s mediation efforts, The five-point consensus was adopted by Asean in April 2021 following the military coup in Myanmar on Feb 1 that year. It calls for an immediate cessation of violence, inclusive dialogue among all parties, the appointment of a special envoy, the delivery of humanitarian assistance and for the envoy to be granted access to all stakeholders in Myanmar. Despite its significance, implementation of the consensus has largely stalled due to the junta’s continued non-compliance, with the issue remaining a central concern in Asean’s ongoing engagement with Myanmar, Bernama reported. Meanwhile, for Asean, Anwar said peace, stability and prosperity have often depended on an open, inclusive, rules-based international order, anchored in the free flow of trade, capital and people. He said the foundations are now being dismantled under the force of arbitrary action. “But again, I strongly believe in the fortitude and staying power of Asean to withstand the headwinds and weather the storms of the challenges and uncertainties facing us.” Bolkiah, President Prabowo Subianto, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Anwar said Asean has been able to take positive steps with the formation of the Informal Advisory Group for Malaysia as the Asean Chair. “It is significant that since the third meeting held in Bangkok, we have been able to move the needle forward in our efforts for the eventual resolution of the Myanmar crisis. “We are grateful that the next meeting will be hosted by Cambodia former Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.” Earlier this month, Anwar initiated separate dialogues with Myanmar’s junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and the opposition National Unity Government, marking a significant step towards fostering direct engagement between the conflicting parties. On Sunday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Asean Foreign Ministers’Meeting had agreed that Asean would undertake internal consultations on the proposal to appoint a permanent Asean Special Envoy to Myanmar for a three-year common front in dealing with these challenges. “Noteworthy is our expeditious response in dealing with the US tariffs through the establishment of the Asean Geo-economics Task Force, a necessary step not just for coordination, but to demonstrate resolution and confidence,” the prime minister said. The task force holds discussions and exchanges views on the regional economic outlook, including the latest developments concerning US unilateral tariff policies, national initiatives and the way forward. It is to be noted that Asean took a non-retaliatory stance on the US tariffs, which have now been paused, while others – namely China, Canada and the European Union – responded in a more confrontational manner. KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded Asean’s remarkable resilience despite strains to the global trading system, thanks largely to the grouping’s numerous milestones, including the establishment of the Asean community and more importantly, its ability to resolve issues collectively. “The milestones offer a renewed sense of optimism and confidence for Asean, underscored by remarkable resilience against a backdrop of increasingly complex and sobering global developments,”

capacity by 2050 under the National Energy Transition Roadmap. Fadillah said regional integration was crucial, especially through mechanisms like the Asean Power Grid, which aims to unlock cross border power trade, leveraging the region’s uneven distribution of renewable resources. “The Laos-Thailand-Malaysia Singapore Power Integration Project is a prime example of how multilateral electricity trade is possible, allowing countries to work together to deliver renewable electricity across borders. “From a national perspective, Malaysia commenced its first cross border green electricity trade with Singapore through Enegem or Energy Exchange Malaysia. In just 148 days, over 107 TWh (terrawatt-hour) of green electricity generated from solar and hydro has been successfully delivered across the Causeway to Singapore.” He stressed the need to harmonise green attributes such as Renewable Energy Certificates across the region to boost investor confidence and prevent double-counting. – Bernama

“The answer lies in a managed, inclusive and well-coordinated energy transition, one that reflects the diversity of Asean while advancing a common vision.” He highlighted Asean’s progress under the Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation Phase II, noting that renewable energy now makes up 34% of installed electricity capacity, though its share in total primary energy supply remains at 16%. “Vietnam has rapidly expanded its solar capacity by more than 20GW since 2019, Indonesia is anchoring a Just Energy Transition Partnership to transition to cleaner energy sources with at least US$20 billion (RM84b) of support and Thailand has adopted a Bio-Circular-Green Economy model to align sustainability with productivity.” He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s target of 70% renewables in installed

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the region’s energy future must be grounded in unity, practical frameworks and mutual benefits. “As Asean Chair, Malaysia is deeply committed to promoting dialogue, building consensus and advancing regional frameworks that will power a cleaner, more secure and more inclusive energy future,” he said at the Energy Transition Meeting in Asean: Fostering Regional Cooperation organised by MyDigital here yesterday. Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister said Asean’s energy demand has been growing faster than the global average, at 3% annually, and is projected to rise by more than 60% by 2040, presenting both opportunities and challenges.

Retirees targeted by job scam syndicates KANGAR: Those seeking part-time jobs after retirement are being increasingly targeted by job scam syndicates, as their retirement savings attract the attention of unscrupulous individuals. Without revealing specific case statistics, Human Resources Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the ministry has identified job scam cases involving this group. “Sometimes, retirees who have savings and choose to work after retiring at 55 or 60 are exploited by irresponsible parties offering high paying jobs but demanding advance payments or other fees. “When they become overconfident or fail to verify the legitimacy of an offer, they end up being deceived,” he said yesterday after launching a seminar on how to avoid becoming victims of job scams. Azman said fraud syndicates use various channels including social media and fake websites advertising lucrative job offers to lure and convince victims. “Sometimes the information appears legitimate, but in reality, it is not. We fear that without increased awareness, vulnerable groups such as retirees will continue to fall prey. That is why the ministry is taking steps to raise awareness, including through a series of roadshows like today’s seminar.” The seminar, organised by the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department, was attended by over 200 participants, including students, job seekers and members of the public seeking to learn how to identify job scam tactics. – Bernama governance, urban planning and design, urban economy, urban basic services, housing and slum upgrading, risk reduction and rehabilitation. working together towards more livable and lovable cities. She said the programme would be expanded to other public universities based on need and suitability. On the comic book collection, Fadhlina said it is one of the government’s grassroots efforts to expose primary school children to anti corruption awareness. “With these comics and interactive videos that we plan to feature on the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia platform, the ministry can further strengthen advocacy and public awareness, especially among our children, on the importance of combating corruption.” Earlier, Fadhlina witnessed the handing over of the Wira Anti Rasuah comic collection from MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman to the Education Ministry’s Director- General Datuk Azman Adnan The comic collection is an English to Malay translation of the original book titled Bribe Busters: A Trace Comic Book, and is in multi-format. understanding of the physical and emotional challenges many women quietly endure during pregnancy. She also underscored the importance of regular prenatal check-ups, not just for the baby’s health but for the mother’s well being too. Consultant dermatologist and Malaysian Allergic Contact Dermatitis Subcommittee president Dr Teeba Raja highlighted that acne affects up to 42% of pregnant women, particularly during the first trimester. This is due to elevated androgen levels which increase sebum production. She added that other common changes include dullness and pigmentation, particularly melasma, often referred to as the “pregnancy mask”. “Pigmentation issues like melasma and linea nigra, a dark vertical line that often appears on the abdomen, typically emerge in the second and third trimesters, as estrogen and melanocyte stimulating hormone levels rise,” she said. “By the third trimester, increased dryness and sensitivity may occur as the skin stretches and undergoes structural shifts.” Teeba also urged caution when choosing skincare products during pregnancy. an anaesthetic that is used not just during childbirth but also in orthopaedic surgery, abdominal procedures and other operations requiring pain management from the waist down. “The scope of epidurals is very broad. It’s not limited to women in labour. Even children undergoing surgery may sometimes receive an epidural, although the technique is different,” she told Bernama. Azarinah, who is also a consultant anaesthesiologist at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, said epidural injections are more commonly used among women in labour as they have early protection to newborns, who are susceptible to complications from pertussis (whooping cough), before completing the vaccination schedule. “International studies have also shown that this vaccine is safe and effective, without increasing any risks to the mother or baby,” he said at the National-Level Immunisation Day celebration held here yesterday. PETALING JAYA: The glow of pregnancy is a common cliche – one that rarely reflects the full truth. For some women, the journey to motherhood comes with painful, unspoken changes. A 28-year-old marketing manager, who wants to be known only as Farah, is one of them. Now eight months pregnant, she is grappling with a rare skin disorder that has transformed her appearance, challenging her confidence. “The first change I noticed was when my skincare routine stopped working. “I started waking up every morning with new pustule-type acne and my skin looked sunburnt and felt extremely itchy. I didn’t even know then that I was pregnant,” she said. But the changes didn’t stop there. By her fourth month, Farah noticed deepening smile lines. By the sixth, frown lines began to appear and became more pronounced each week. “I read so many articles and knew there wasn’t much that could be done during pregnancy,” she said. “I talked to my husband about my insecurities, and he reminded me that this was only temporary. He supported me in every way he could.” Farah hopes that by sharing her story, more people will gain a deeper KUALA LUMPUR: The use of epidurals as an anaesthetic during childbirth came under the spotlight on social media recently with some netizens equating the procedure to a “cheat code” to avoid pain during delivery. This not only caused discomfort among mothers but also reflected a lack of understanding about a medical procedure that has long been used, not only in obstetrics, but also in other types of surgeries. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Azarinah Izaham said an epidural is

avoided due to its high systemic absorption, and salicylic acid should be used with caution, especially in high concentrations or oral forms.” Instead, she advised using non comedogenic, hydrating cleansers to avoid clogged pores while maintaining skin health. “Azelaic acid and niacinamide are mild enough to treat acne and pigmentation safely. “Daily vitamin C serums and broad spectrum sunscreen are essential for protecting against UV-induced damage. Always stay hydrated both inside and out with barrier-repairing moisturisers.” She also reassured expectant mothers that most pregnancy-related skin concerns are temporary. “Acne usually resolves within a few months postpartum. Melasma may take longer to fade and, in some cases, may persist. But skin hydration and elasticity typically return over time with proper postpartum care.” Farah, now eight months pregnant, is grappling with a rare skin disorder. – COURTESY PIC become the gold standard for managing pain during childbirth. “The anaesthetic medication delivered through an epidural injection acts directly to block the transmission of pain signals, helping to reduce pain. This differs from taking painkillers like opiates, which have a more generalised effect and do not specifically target the nerves responsible for labour contractions,” she said. Although epidurals do not always completely eliminate pain (mothers may still feel uterine contractions), Azarinah said the anaesthetic still provides greater comfort and helps

throughout their pregnancy journey. “It’s important to remember that these skin changes are normal, natural and largely reversible.” Universiti Putra Malaysia Obstetrics & Gynaecology clinical lecturer Dr Nurul Iftida Basri said hormonal changes during pregnancy can significantly affect the skin – from acne and hyperpigmentation to dryness and even early signs of ageing, such as wrinkles. Nurul Iftida warned that certain symptoms, like facial swelling, could signal more serious complications such as pre-eclampsia, a condition caused by high blood pressure that leads to excessive water retention. She also said stress and lack of sleep can further aggravate these skin conditions. Support from partners and loved ones plays a vital role in how women cope. maintain the emotional and physical wellbeing of the mother. “When the mother is not stressed, she becomes calmer, more comfortable and has more energy for the birthing process,” she said. However, she added, epidurals are not suitable for everyone, especially patients with blood clotting disorders or who are taking blood-thinning medication. Nur Syuhadah Yusof, 33, recalled her experience about eight years ago when she chose to receive an epidural injection during childbirth. She said the procedure did indeed reduce the level of pain she experienced. aged 60 and above with at least one listed chronic illness. Beware of fake Mujamalah visa offers MECCA: The Pilgrims’Fund Board or Tabung Haji (TH) takes seriously the rise in fraudulent offers of Mujamalah visas (invitational haj visas), which are now actively being promoted by irresponsible parties through various social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. Its director ( haj operators) Anuar Ahmad advised those who obtain the visa to register and perform the pilgrimage through any of the 37 haj pilgrimage organisers licensed by Tabung Haji under Section 28 of the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535) to safeguard their welfare and ensure a smooth pilgrimage. “If the Mujamalah visa is offered by a company or individual not listed among the 37 licensed organisers, it poses a big risk. “TH does not know the capabilities of the parties concerned, the location of the pilgrims’ accommodation, nor the form of service that will be provided. What’s more concerning is that these parties are not subject to any supervision or monitoring by TH. “We urge the public not to be easily deceived by dubious haj offers, especially those offering prices that are too cheap or too expensive. Avoid making any advance payments or deposits without official confirmation from TH,” he said. Anuar added that the issuance of Mujamalah visas is the sole prerogative of the Saudi Arabian government and falls outside Malaysia’s official haj quota. He also gave an assurance that TH would continue to strengthen comprehensive monitoring of the operations of the 37 organisers for this year’s haj season, compared with 25 last year, to ensure the welfare of pilgrims. – Bernama

Malacca to improve road lighting

MALACCA: The state government is identifying accident-prone “blackspot” areas, particularly in rural locations, as part of efforts to prevent recurring road crashes in Malacca. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said statistics by the state police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department showed that 68 fatal road collisions and 7,871 road crashes were recorded from January to April. “The state government will improve the lighting in the affected areas to improve the safety of road users,“ he said at the state administration’s monthly assembly at the Malacca International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh yesterday. He said 131 cases of housebreaking and 16 cases of child abuse were recorded during the same period. He also said Mobile Road Block operations in targeted areas, as well as the Integrated Crime Prevention Operation, which involves the cooperation of other enforcement agencies, are being carried out to increase the effectiveness of monitoring and control in high-risk areas. This has resulted in the arrest of 73 suspects in 58 housebreaking cases, he added. Ab Rauf said the state government is committed to strengthening the education sector through various programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of learning and facilities at all levels. “The federal government has approved projects to renovate and upgrade 25 schools in Malacca. The projects will be implemented in stages.” – Bernama Murder case of Amoi transferred to High Court KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the case involving an e-hailing driver charged with the murder of Nurul Asikin Lan in December last year be transferred to the Kuching High Court. underground pipeline integrity and addressing issues requiring physical or technical intervention. The Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline system is monitored 24/7 through a centralised control centre in Segamat, Johor. The system features an Online Leak Detection System designed to detect potential gas leaks in real-time. In emergencies such as gas leaks or explosions, PGB said it has an Incident Action Plan that involves coordination with state-level authorities. Zairil said Penang’s main PGU pipeline stretches about 42km from the Sungai Kerian border near Parit Buntar to Sungai Muda, with a 23km lateral line supplying gas to key power stations in Prai and Gelugor. He added that according to the department, there are 34 active major hazard installations in Penang involving high-risk operations, underscoring the importance of stringent pipeline safety measures. PGB confirmed that signboards mark pipeline presence along the ROW but there are no public maps or digital tracking tools available to the public.

near these zones.” He said the Occupational Safety and Health Department conducts annual safety audits on pipeline operators in Penang. These audits cover integrity management, operations, maintenance and technical inspections, such as hydrostatic and pneumatic tests for pipelines applying for a Permit to Operate. The department also carries out surprise checks on pipelines without a permit and issues compliance orders where necessary, he said. To maintain pipeline integrity, PGB employs a combination of drone surveillance, ground patrols and continuous remote monitoring. The frequency of drone surveillance and the number of drones deployed depends on the terrain and size of the monitoring area. “Larger or more segmented areas may require multiple drones operating in parallel to ensure efficient coverage and timely data collection,” said PGB. Its ground inspections allow for close-up assessments, verifying

On May 19 during the Penang legislative assembly, Zairil confirmed that drone surveillance and ground patrols are carried out once or twice a week to monitor pipeline buffer zones. “The main concern is preventing intrusion into the pipeline ROW buffer zones, which are designed to maintain a safe distance from residential areas. There are clear guidelines regulating development multiple agencies due to the mixed waste types that are managed by entities such as Indah Water Konsortium, the Environment Department, the Atomic Energy Licensing Board and SWCorp. Extinguishing such fires is complex, often requiring excavators and vast amounts of water pumped from rivers kilometres away. “We use the ‘dig up and extinguish’ method. But the department does not own heavy machinery, so we rely on other agencies. If none are available, we have to wait, although the fire does not.” The department leads operations for the first 48 hours, then the responsibility shifts to local authorities. If the fire persists, the department may assist further on a paid basis, unless public safety is at risk. “Many people do not know this. The fire department is not a free service that can be deployed at all times. There are limits and a legal framework,” said Farhan. He said burning materials, such as

Student charity concert to support cancer patients

Ű BY DEEPALAKSHMI MANICKAM newsdesk@thesundaily.com

BANGI: “Music with a mission” is the motto of Malam Irama Penyayang XIV (MIP XIV), where 148 students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia are striking a chord for a cause. Now in its 14th edition and making a long-awaited return after a pandemic-induced hiatus, MIP XIV is more than just a student concert; it is a powerful act of compassion. Organised by the Sekretariat Kebudayaan Mahasiswa India, this annual charity event will donate 100% of its proceeds to the oncology unit at the Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital UKM, providing crucial support for cancer patients in need. The concert is set to take place this Saturday at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak located at the university in Bangi. Adding star power to this meaningful cause, renowned Indian playback singer Naresh Iyer will make a special guest appearance, lighting up the stage and lending his voice in support of the initiative. Student organisation president Shurendar Kannathasan, 23, said audiences can look forward to a mix of performances, including singing and dancing by university students and renowned artistes. “The event promises an exciting blend of formal and informal entertainment that celebrates talent and compassion.” Each year, MIP adopts a medical cause based on urgency and potential impact. This year’s focus on cancer treatment reflects a shared goal to ease the burden of care for patients and their families. “We want to help ease the treatment journey for cancer patients,” said Shurendar. “It is a small way that we, as students, can contribute to the lives of those battling serious illness.” In 2023, five children received heart surgeries at the National Heart Institute, funded by the RM50,000 raised by the student organisation. Since its inception 14 years ago, the concert has evolved into a cornerstone of student-led charity at the university. Organising an event of this scale is no small feat. This year’s edition is powered by 15 departments and led by three deputy programme directors, all working under a central leadership team.

arts and culture will also one day gain recognition from the organisation.” He was speaking at the closing and prize presentation ceremony for the state-level Dondang Sayang Competition, held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat programme for the Sungai Udang state constituency. Sungai Udang constituency coordinator Datuk Rais Yasin also attended the event. Ab Rauf said the state government has set up a dondang sayang training centre and gallery in Kampung Hang Tuah, Duyong to showcase this cultural heritage, which also serves as an educational hub for younger generations to learn about history and arts. He said this initiative aligns with the recognition of dondang sayang as part of Unesco’s Representative List “These students are not just volunteers; they are leaders in training,” said Shurendar. “MIP teaches them how to manage large-scale events, coordinate teams, solve problems and connect with real-world causes.” MIP XIV is open to students from all faculties, promoting diversity and personal growth. Participants are chosen based on interest and commitment, and their contributions are formally recognised through merit marks. “It is a platform that brings students from different academic backgrounds together, giving them a meaningful way to serve the community.” After a two-year pause due to Covid-19, this year’s comeback carries more than just excitement; it represents renewed determination and purpose. “We are thrilled to return stronger than ever for the 14th edition,” said Shurendar. Funding for MIP XIV comes from a wide network of supporters, including alumni, private companies, NGOs and the public, through direct donations and in-kind contributions coordinated via the student organisation’s social media. “We are grateful to everyone who supports our cause. Every ringgit and effort helps make a real difference,” said Shurendar. Looking beyond this year’s concert, the student organisation envisions a larger movement

He added that in support of efforts to elevate the dondang sayang industry, the state government has developed the Gerbang Pantun Melaka portal to collect and share traditional pantun , poetic verses that are the heritage and creative work of the people of Malacca. “Over 2,000 pantun have been collected. He added that the state government has formed a special committee to address illegal waste dumping, focusing on strengthening enforcement and reviewing outdated by-laws, expanding civic education and public awareness campaigns more aggressively and introducing a smart monitoring system based on artificial intelligence at hotspot areas to speed up the detection and prosecution of offenders. He said although Section 69 of the Local Government Act 1976 empowers local authorities to impose fines of up to RM2,000 or one year’s jail and an additional fine of RM500 per day for repeat offences, the law needs to be further scrutinised. – Bernama

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stressed the need for more radical and comprehensive measures to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the state’s environment. He said the recent decree by Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail, highlighting concerns about pollution in rivers and roads caused by irresponsible individuals, signals that it is time for more decisive action. “The necessary steps include raising the minimum compound rate as a clear signal to all parties and amending or introducing new, more relevant and stringent laws,” he said during the winding-up

He said the unit would be introduced at the July soft launch for World Tourism Day and the World Tourism Conference. He also said the unit gathers culture and arts practitioners from Institut Warisan Melaka and the Malacca Arts Brigade, and will be placed under the purview of the Chief Minister’s Department. “We should be proud as there are hundreds of countries and thousands of cities worldwide, yet Malacca was chosen as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. “We will prove that Malacca’s rich

Call for a world order based on law

He promised to cut his own term to three years if he is elected as the next leader so presidential and general elections could happen in the same year from 2028. He also pledged to strike down presidential immunity. Yoon was a member of the PPP until he resigned from the party on May 17. In recent years, presidential candidates from across the political spectrum have supported revisions including giving presidents two four-year terms, but there have been few concrete steps after new leaders were chosen. A Gallup Korea opinion survey last month found 67% of respondents supported revising the constitution to fix the presidential system, with 21% saying it is unnecessary. In April, Lee rejected a proposal by Woo Won-shik, the speaker of the parliament, to hold a referendum on constitutional reform on the June 3 presidential election day. At the time Lee said ending the political turmoil was the top priority. The next president should begin to gather public consensus based on election pledges for the constitutional amendment and move forward with bipartisan support, he said on Sunday. Kim and his party criticised Lee for not pledging to reduce the term for the next presidency, but Lee said stable governance and economic recovery would be more important for the next leader than spending much of the term only on the constitutional revision. – Reuters “It is truly a new page being written between our two countries ... a desire to write an even more ambitious page of the relationship between Vietnam and France, between Asean and the European Union,” Macron said. After paying tribute at a Hanoi war memorial to those who fought against French colonial occupation, Macron met his counterpart Cuong. The president later had lunch with Communist Party General Secretary To Lam at the capital’s star attraction, the Temple of Literature. Lam is considered the most powerful leader in Vietnam, a one party state which tolerates no dissent and moves quickly to suppress any criticism. Ahead of Macron’s first official visit to the country, Human Rights Watch pressed him to voice concerns about “the Vietnamese government’s worsening rights record”. Vietnam has more than 170 political prisoners who have been charged and convicted under “draconian laws” that criminalise free expression and peaceful activism for human rights and democracy, Human Rights Watch said. A public appeal would be out of character for the French president, who regularly says he prefers to raise sensitive issues behind closed doors. Macron hopes to sell Hanoi his offer of a “third way” between Washington and Beijing. “Vietnam is on the front line of tensions in the South China Sea,” said a senior French diplomatic official.

HANOI: France’s Emmanuel Macron called in Vietnam yesterday for the preservation of a world order “based on law”, as he started a tour of Southeast Asia, a region caught up in the confrontation between the United States and China. During a press statement alongside his Vietnamese counterpart Luong Cuong in Hanoi, Macron said a rules-based order was necessary at “a time of both great imbalance and a return to power driven rhetoric and intimidation”. The president presented France as a reliable alternative for Vietnam, caught between Washington, which is threatening to impose enormous levies on its exports to the United States, and Beijing, an important trade partner with which it is also embroiled in territorial disputes in the South China Sea. After his arrival in Hanoi late Sunday, the first stop of a six-day trip that will take in Indonesia and Singapore, Macron emphasised a shared vision with Vietnam, a country of 100 million people experiencing stellar growth. Yesterday, around a dozen agreements were signed between the two countries, including in the field of nuclear power, which Hanoi is keen to develop as it seeks to meet soaring energy demands.
