Local film reaches out to international audiences
Tamil travelogue on Astro DIRECTED by Mugeshwaran Sivanantham, the new travelogue series Oor Sutrum Boys can be watched every Friday at 9pm on Astro Vinmeen (Ch 202). This series takes viewers on an adventure through breathtaking landscapes, mouth-watering cuisines and thrilling experiences. Oor Sutrum Boys is hosted by local talents who embrace roles as “The Foodie” (Thiagu B), “The Adventure Seeker” (Kris Jay Harish) and “The Dreamer” (Daview Puvanan). Together, they explore Malaysia as they discover new flavours, take on daredevil activities and dive into deeper stories within every landscape and culture. This unique concept, showcased for the first time, highlights hidden gems, historical landmarks and a diverse array of delectable food found at local markets, street food stalls and gourmet restaurants rich in cultural elements. Experience the adrenaline rush of activities such as paragliding, white-water rafting, snorkelling, diving and much more. The 10-episode show aims to instil a strong and powerful message among audiences that travel does not need to be lavish. Instead, it can be experienced on a shoestring budget. Oor Sutrum Boys presents the culture and traditions of each place alongside the lifestyle of local communities such as the fishermen, the Orang Asli community and more. M ALAYSIA’S latest action film Gayong is set to break into the international market with a release in 33 Latin American countries. The movie tells the story of the late Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman, the founder and grandmaster of silat gayong . Its producer Eric Ong said the opportunity arose after his company Movie Move’s o Gayong to be released in 33 Latin America countries
What has been communicated to me is the release will be for (streaming) platforms. However, no final decision has been made regarding the release date. “Regardless, I am proud Gayong can penetrate the Latin American market. It proves local films and the art of silat have their unique value and are admired internationally,” he said. Directed by Faisal Ishak, Gayong has premiered in cinemas in Malaysia and Brunei, while its Singapore release was yesterday. Its cast includes popular actors such as Beto Kusyairy, Nabila Huda, Syafie Naswip and Indonesian actor Yayan Ruhian. – Bernama

On Modern Romance , which she wrote and recorded alongside her close collaborator Rob Milton, Chloe traverses between pop hits exuding in vibrant, upbeat melodies. The five-track project is a testimony to the artistic proficiency Chloe possesses, as well as her versatility as songwriter. Speaking on Modern Romance , Chloe said: “The Modern Romance EP is the project of my dreams. I am so proud of this body of work and so excited to play it to people when we tour in October. “She is the sister act to my first EP, the more rambunctious, and daring younger sibling who is ready to make her mark. She (the EP) is about love in the modern age, in all of her passionate and messy forms. We have only just scraped the surface, and I cannot wait for the world to see what we have in store.” In October, Chloe will embark on her first UK and European tour, including her biggest headline show to date at London’s Village Underground. Following a string of sell out shows in London, Manchester, Amsterdam and Paris, including her recent packed out show at Omeara in London. The tour will see Chloe play shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Berlin. She will also play what is set to be a packed out show at Brighton’s The Great Escape festival at Patterns. Chloe’s sophomore EP Modern Romance includes the three hugely successful singles 21st Century Cool Girl, Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread and Modern Romance – which have all become critically and commercially acclaimed.
