Filtration For those with fur allergies, an aquar ium is a great alternative to cats, dogs and even hamsters. A fur-free environment should not then be substituted with a funky smelling fish tank. Do the necessary research or speak to fellow enthusiasts on the best filtra tion system for the size of your fish tank. Species Will you opt for freshwater fish or the saltwater variety? The main considera tion here is how much time and money you are willing to spend. A marine aquarium containing neon-coloured saltwater fish and living corals is a sight to behold but it does require additional expense. Getting the aquarium’s conditions right can be quite tricky and the con sequence can be a tank of dead (expensive) marine fish! Conversely, fresh water aquariums are a bit easier to maintain and can just be as delightful to watch. Give these factors proper consideration and you are well on your way to brightening your home with a beautiful water feature.
dominating the entire space at the expense of other features you wish to highlight. Just gazing at swimming fish has been shown to significantly reduce blood pressure, so the last thing you want to do is take on a task too big to handle, leading to unwanted headaches and increased blood pressure! Water access Make sure the aquarium has easy access to water for cleaning purposes. Fish tanks need to be serviced and the water regularly changed, so this is a must. Last thing you want is having to pull lengthy hoses or worse, ferry bucketloads of water to and fro, creating a mess. Power points The same goes for power points. Aquariums will need oxygen pumps, filtration systems and lighting. Ensure there is at least one electri cal socket nearby to power these items, which will be running 24/7. You do not want having coils of unsightly power cables ruining the aesthetic of the room. That would be self-defeating.
ONCE upon a time, specialist aquarium shops were seen in almost every neighbourhood. But this acquatic hobby has gone out of style somewhat and turned niche. Still, many fancy having a water feature inside their home. The soothing sound of water flowing through the filtration system and the soft whirr of the oxygen pumps lend a calming effect to a home. This tranquility is further accentuated by the usual soft blue or green light accompanying most aquariums. If you are looking to add an aquarium to your home, here are a few things to consider: Size Fish tanks come in a variety of sizes, including small, corner-fitting units and micro-units that sit on a desktop. Larger ones can stretch up to six feet in length and will be able to house more or larger specimens of fish. Make sure you accurately measure the dimensions of the location where you wish to place the fish tank. Ensure there is enough room lest the aquarium ends up
