contacted the Marine Police for emergency assistance and efforts to salvage the capsized yacht,“ Hasani told Bernama after receiving the award at the RLIR 2025 closing ceremony yesterday. Hasani added that after stabilising the capsized yacht, some of his team members assisted the Boreas crew in pumping out water from 4pm until 8pm. “Although we were competing for points in the race, emergencies involving lives at sea are a responsibility we cannot ignore. We later learned this was the first instance of a yacht capsizing during RLIR’s history. “Even though we didn’t win in the Racing class, we are deeply honoured and proud to receive this meaningful award. It is the first time we’ve been recognised with such an award since our debut in RLIR in 2006,“ he said. – Bernama

J OHOR DARUL TA’ZIM (JDT) are on the brink of creating history by clinching their 11th consecutive Super League title after a crucial 1-0 victory over Terengganu FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Nerus on Saturday. Spanish import midfielder Juan Muniz emerged as the hero for the Southern Tigers, netting the winning goal in the 12th minute to secure three valuable points for Hector Bidoglio’s side. JDT, who are comfortably leading the league table with 52 points, now have a bright chance of sealing the title, sitting 13 points clear of second-placed Selangor FC with six matches remaining. The club made history last season by winning their 10th consecutive Super League title, maintaining dominance since their reign began in 2014. Turtles head coach, Badrul Afzan Razali blamed poor finishing for his team’s defeat. The 48-year-old coach expressed his disappointment with the forward line’s inefficiency, as they failed to convert clear scoring opportunities into goals. He said his players displayed disciplined performances throughout both halves of the match, but the inability to capitalise on chances left them without any points at home. “Personally, I am satisfied and commend the disciplined performance of my players who followed the game plan. “However, I am very disappointed that in both the first and second halves, we had many clear chances. “At the very least, we could have drawn the match. But against JDT, we cannot afford to make such mistakes (poor finishing),” he said
after the match. Southern Tigers head coach Hector Bidoglio said JDT will continue their winning momentum in upcoming matches to ensure the Super League title remains with his team this season. Meanwhile, Selangor’s hopes of securing three points were dashed when a last-minute penalty forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw against Penang FC at the City Stadium in Penang. Panthers head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail said the point earned was a positive sign of the team’s revival. “This result is the outcome of the players’ hard work. Although the pitch was waterlogged for much of the second half, the players’ spirit was not dampened,” Wan Rohaimi said after the match. “We know where we stand right now. Perhaps this fighting spirit is the tonic for our revival. While we couldn’t secure three points, one point is still better than nothing.” The Red Giants head coach Kinoshi Katsuhito said the heavy rain disrupted his team’s rhythm, leaving them short of the victory they were on the verge of securing. “Tonight’s game had too much rain, so we couldn’t play well. However, we should adapt to this kind of weather. “We are never satisfied with just one point because our goal is always three points. We must secure three points and work to maintain them. This is our mission,” he said. In another match, Sabah FC claimed a crucial victory in their bid to challenge for the runner-up position by defeating Negeri Sembilan FC 2-1 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi. – Bernamam
