Former Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes succumbs to cancer

WHEN you have Tygers of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake on your resume, you have earned the right to be referred to as a “legend”. That is definitely the term being used to describe John Sykes who sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 65 at the time of his passing. He will be remembered by many as a man with exceptional musical talent but for those who did not know him personally, he was a thoughtful, kind and charismatic man whose presence lit up the room. “He certainly marched to the beat of his own drum and always pulled for the underdog. In his final days, he spoke of his sincere love and gratitude for his fans who stuck by him through all these years. While the impact of his loss is profound and the mood sombre, we hope the light of his memory will extinguish the shadow of his absence.” He famously played on Whitesnake’s Slide It In album (1982) and the multi platinum shifting self-titled record from 1987, which saw the band gain a firm foothold in America. S EVEN piece girl group Babymonsters will embark on its first ever world tour called Hello, Monsters. Good news for Malaysian fans as KL is pencilled in for June 21. The tour started in Seoul last Saturday and will take in venues such as Newark (New Jersey), Inglewood (Los Angeles), Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Taipei and Jakarta. Details of tickets for the KL gig have yet to be announced and fans are advised to keep a close eye on organiser Live Malaysia’s social media platforms and website. Demand is anticipated to be high and tickets will surely go fast for the group which was recognised as Best New Artiste (Overseas) at the Asian Pop Music Awards 2024. Consisting of members Ruka, Pharita, Rami, Rora, Chiquita, Asa and Ahyeon, Babymonsters’s debuted in Nov 2023 with the single Batter Up . The group’s first LP Drip was released to major fanfare last year.
